Blast

The leaves fall off the tree
Seconds leaking from a dripping clock

Each tiny vein a crunch
A fallen decade under foot
Time lost
Skin lost

I don’t think I want to be robust any more
I don’t think I can commune and lead the way

This fallen forest compromises dreams
Awakens reality
Then leaves

They would not sell me ballet shoes

Let's trip skip one more time in the afternoon
Let the coffee stain my hair

Let’s have a blast and bake a powder cake
One more yellow break brake in the afternoon
Two to four
I promise
I swear

Lift me high
Like pie in the sky

See how black my eyes are
Tired
Sewn in deep like buttons

My real state of being

Contact chat collaborate concern
Empty as an amputation
Nothing better
Nothing worse

Down in the coal pit
These buttons eyes serve me well
No need to listen

The veins
The crunch
The falling leaves

I know everything that matters is underground

I could gather up the time and skin
Make a window
Build a door
Fashion a hatch
Finish the cake
Unstitch the buttons
Peel back the dark
But I have no care to see

Time falls
I fell already

Let’s have a blast and bake a powder cake
Just one more yellow break brake in the afternoon
Two to four
I promise
I swear

Lift me high
Like pie in the sky

Stitch me yellow button eyes.

Worn

The three sisters have gathered
Gold in the night
Like magic
Except you are in the corner
Stiffer than a shadow
Stony cold
Gone

I am lost in the ruins of myself
Trouble and sorry in the same room

The three sisters are torn apart in love
An entanglement of lost hearts and unspoken deaths

Not worn out
Worn through

The three sisters have gathered
I did not change the bandages
Or rub upon the salve

There is no point in dressing for dinner
When love and taste has gone

Funny
I can do what I want now
I can dine until I burst
Cry until I laugh
Sing electric
Loud as thunder in the night

But all I want is sleep
And you

I am worn out
Not through

The three sisters came and went
Like the notion that I could make this better

I still watch them
Up there in the gold and magic
As all the world sleeps
And my dreams are stolen

I pretend that I am with them
An evening out
But not worn through.

Poison

The plough came down
The clips came out
The dry bones jumped the cliff
Dropped like bullets in a silver tray
Stutter splutter spit

I could fill an apple cart with my longing and your absence

They taped me up
Thick sugar sauce
Rickety clickety click
Poison to my soul

We climbed the glass
And flew the bed
Easy as filling pages
Bad as eating pie

These words are yours and mine
Hiding in the back seat
Sailing the ship when we are high
We laugh
How sweet each syllable feels
Going down
But our language is like glass

We cannot sustain this yellow rift
Down we come
Lickety-split

We are cold
We are baffled
Why do we feel cold
Why do we even feel

The forms need filling
The walls keep falling
Keep me in
Keep them out
The world changes
We are stuck inside

This poison I have
Inside
Outside
I cannot sit with it
I cannot live with it
I have to spit it out.

Removed

The paper falls on the floor
No return if removed

Trouble number ten
Impulsivity
It leaves us empty

I wish I wish
My conscience would be too

I was in the other room
I did not hear you cry

Acid on the face
Lemon juice in the eye

The sink is blocked
The walls are crumbling
The flies keep coming in

Should you be worried about the powder on my shoes

The sheets wrap up my dreams
Safe and warm as fish and chips
Eaten on the beach

Different time
Different place
Sparse pleasure
Quickly ripped away
When my eyes fall on the floor

There is something stuck
Inside
Outside
Unshakeable
Morose

A conscience
A missed blessing
Pleasure
Pain

The trouble is I do not know

The paper falls on the floor
No return if removed.

Asylum

Hold the bag Alice
We have much work to do
We must we must
Reclaim ourselves
Grant asylum to our soul

god protect us from the abomination of the powder and the dust

Quick sticks
Carry the candle mummy is coming home

My feet hurt
And the oranges have turned gray
Look my fingers are just like starlings gazing up from a pie
Jam filling and pastry on top
Let’s stop and have a bite
We need sugar to cross this demimonde

She brushes her pinafore proudly
Pleased that she knows such a very grand word

There’s no time to stop
If we stop
He will come
And if he comes
We will forget our way home

What will happen if we never get home
It will be like we were never born

Oh, she sighs and holds the bag and our transgressions tighter
I don’t think I would like that
We never go far after all
It would be a long way past the mirror
Past the road to Africa and far beyond the moon

Yes
Quick sticks
Carry the candle
We must protect our home from thieves and fools

We shut our eyes and touch our head
We do that
Once twice three times
Our rites
When the words are too big
And the world even bigger

I hold her hand
So very glad for her allegiance

Quick Sticks
Put the powder on the chopping board
Mummy's coming home.

Buckle Up

I will paint my arm black
And dye my hair white
Like rabbit
She says
To try and help
You know
I don’t have to tell her
We are falling down the hole
Hide behind the tree she says
Safe from prying eyes
They don’t pry Alice
They don’t even see
She bends
Pretends
To straighten her buckles
She knows the next part
And the next part
She will come too
Just in case
We meet our limit
You know
It’s not all tea and cake
It’s a puzzle silly
And we can always work out a puzzle
If they have eyes
Then they can see
And if we are here
Then they can see us
And if they can see us
Then they can pry on us
And keep us safe
I smile at her
To show her how very clever she is
I can no longer make a sound
Find a word to say
We were not just lost in the mirror
We were hung up from the tree
I pull the bag on my shoulder
Take her hand
There is a little lane
To the east
Where a woman in soft cotton moved
Her hands
Like life
In a way
Her trousers billowing
Like sails
In a way

Maybe if we follow her
Maybe if we find her
Maybe if we become her

I’m scared says Alice
I hold her hand
To show her how very special she is

I will never make a sound
I will hide her
Keep her safe
Keep her from knowing
Our Dissolving
Our unbuckling
Our falling grain by grain

Ashes to ashes
Water through dust
Black into white

We must we must.

As Prescribed

Your painted nails drag down my cheek
Red like cherry bombs
Tearing through the night

Two doses of love
Wrapped in a tiny white box
The label reads
Don't take both at once

The pins fell out in the dressing room

We ran up the chaos hill
I hear they trade good cherries there

The war runs deep
Indiscriminately
Vicious inside

Powder silver golden coins
All placed in a basket
Mummy can carry home

We drop sour kisses
Muddy
Despicable

It really is a bore
Everything secret
Nothing unknown

Let’s ring a bell and sing for peace
Liberate the words

Maybe the cherry bomb will diffuse me
And a truce will end this war

Except I know the secret
The blood red night is mine alone
And the prisoner but one.

Ordinary

It all seems such an ordinary affair
White bag
Grey slippers
Little yellows tucked inside
Marigolds and buttercups
Compound powder sun
Drowns out sound
Blisses us past irritation
Deep into jumble dreams
Silver sweet runs through my toes
Soft hands brush my face
Afternoon passes by the window

I am so tired

Clean the doors
Tidy the floors
Hem the curtains
Neat as skin

fit pop blast

Is this tea
Sniffs Alice
Pointedly
Flamboyantly
It hardly meets my appetite

I pull packets from the cupboards
Yellows and blues fall like cherry drops

Yellow ready
Green go
Red stop

Red is the signal we would like to disclose

The sky is stirred in a china cup
Purple and blue that time forgot
We see the last lights last rights
Fall heavy on our sheets

Head slows
We will not let it stop
Electricity busy as stars waving in the night
Always work to do

It all seems such an ordinary affair
Sacred threads and marigolds
Drifting through our head.
