The soul waits for absolution
Swallows little white pills to sleep
Waits in a drafty corridor
Catching dreams
Always cold
The blankets tuck around the body
There is a disconnect between physics and thought
Her tiny fingers interlace with mine
The smell of washing overrides the pebble dashed walls
We can no longer breathe in peace
We walk in circles
Think in circles
Time to pass
(Whether we want it to or not)
The soul waits for absolution
Swallows little white pills to sleep.
"We walk in circles
ReplyDeleteThink in circles
Time to pass"....This is modern times. So pathetic. We can't escape it. Sigh. But meanwhile that interlace thing is a beauty :)
Thank you Sumana :-)
DeleteHow, at times, our conscience /fear/anguish interrupts our ability to sleep, and makes the burden of our troubled thoughts so much bigger.
ReplyDeleteSometimes our only resort is those little white pills...
A deep and honest write Jae.
Anna :o]
Thank you Anna
DeleteThis poem sits right at the edge of that "disconnect"! Reading it, I feel the cold. The soul wants. Wow!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Susan
Delete'The soul waits for absolution'.. sigh.. this is so beautifully deep and true!💞
ReplyDeleteThank you Sanaa 💙
DeleteThis poem is so lovely. I especially am struck by "the pebble dashed walls." And the soul waiting for absolution. Am glad those small fingers are still holding yours. I hope, soon, you can breathe in peace, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you for those wishes Sherry xo
DeleteI'm definitely feeling like this these days. My thoughts circling between the world and what my soul wants. Thank you for this poem!
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading and relating Rob
DeleteLate in getting my comments to you. Deeply honest, Jae Rose. Hang on to that small hand. I think it will guide you.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Sarah
DeleteBeautifully sad. I guess absolution is withheld as well as given by the soul. I pray for the soul's generosity, that it gives (you) peace.
ReplyDeleteThank you Myrna - May that prayer be heard
DeleteOften with your writing Jae we look for a secret message rather than savouring your words and how they play together. I don't think you should feel guilty for the hurt you feel as life is such an enigma. Meanwhile my pill ration increases and I hate everyone of them!
ReplyDeleteThank you Old Egg - and I think it is wise to hate those pills
DeleteThe soul waits for absolution
ReplyDeleteSwallows little white pills to sleep.
The white pills may not provide the right solution, still many take to them
Hank
Thanks Hank
DeleteAn amazing image - a self-medicating soul waiting in a drafty corridor. Your poem made me cry, Jae - it reminded me of my mother.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim - although I'm sorry to have made you cry
DeleteWhat a haunting image- 'soul waits in a drafty corridor catching dreams'. I got a chill up my spine reading this. So beautifully written from a place deep inside.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sara
DeleteI enter your world through your pages and oddly it seems similar to mine. You have a way of touching the everyman in us.
ReplyDeleteThank you Debi
DeleteThat walking in circles really works as a kind of prison... do we break free with sleep?
ReplyDeleteI hope so - thanks Bjorn
DeleteYeah, I can visualise the speaker walking and thinking in circles, and eventually popping those little white pills. Oh, why can't the soul be absolved! Powerful write as usual, Jae!
ReplyDeleteThank you as ever Khaya
DeleteYou paint an apt picture of a sad situation. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan
DeleteVery well said. We are all walking in circles these days, Jae.
ReplyDeleteAbsolution for the soul comes in many forms, I think. Some are more effective than others. The trick is to find what works and what doesn't.
ReplyDelete'Time to pass'... Reading your poem reminded me of a long discussion with someone about how we (each of us) have limited time (life is short, unpredictable) and yet we have 'time to pass doing nothing meaningful'.
ReplyDeleteIt is a struggle to stay on the path to absolution.
