We hold onto its magic ransom
Trample down the pink vines
Our palms sticky and spiteful
But also full of love
It is a dense day
We change our self to fit the dangerous thoughts
It is a fine tale
One of hope and longing
We strike up a band
Count cats in the afternoon
Hope for their tangerine tongues to kiss us
Rich rain peels though the night
Takes aim over the red bed
We are plural
Essential
Rich flames and steady breaths
The snow falls thick and fancy
We hold onto its magic ransom.
I love the snow falling thick and fancy, and its magic ransom. I adore the counting of cats in the afternoon. Magical! I am loving your poetry these days, Jae. They have the most wonderful voice.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sherry
DeleteInteresting association of "magic ransom" with snow.
ReplyDeleteThanks Frank
DeleteLove this... to be at the ransom of the snow can be be so peaceful if we don't feel we have to do anything else than poesy
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the idea of poesy - thanks Bjorn
DeleteThe lines, "Count cats in the afternoon
ReplyDeleteHope for their tangerine tongues to kiss us
Rich rain peels though the night," hints at catatonic chaotic thoughts while being held against your will! I am enjoying watching your work grow, Jae!
Thanks so much Bekkie
DeleteI must agree with Sherry that you poetry is taking us to completely new worlds Jae with such descriptive phrases, so that our minds are caught up into your fantasy so that we are really there.
ReplyDeleteThank you Old Egg - greatly appreciated
DeleteI love these lines:
ReplyDelete"The snow falls thick and fancy"
"Count cats in the afternoon
Hope for their tangerine tongues to kiss us"
"We are plural
Essential
Rich flames and steady breaths"
Thank you Bell Jar
DeleteIntense imagery. Am intrigued by counting cats. Does it have the same effect as sheep?
ReplyDeleteTsk - yes I think so..thanks J Cosmo
DeleteWe change our self to fit the dangerous thoughts
ReplyDeleteThis is a very telling line - so true, though I doubt we realize what we are doing.
Thank you Kerry
DeleteI love this new turn in your lines Jae. "We change our self to fit the dangerous thoughts / It is a fine tale"...Great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sumana
DeleteWhat a great poem, I certainly like the repetition of the opening and closing lines.
ReplyDeleteThank you Julian
DeleteI love the association of "magic ransom" with snow.
ReplyDeleteA treasure chest of ransom here. Marvelous and swoony.
ReplyDeleteThanks Brendan
DeleteGorgeous words and imagery.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rosemary
DeleteI like the repeated lines at the beginning and end. It almost creates a sort of magical demarcation line, separating the lovers and the odd beauty of their world, from the world outside them. You have drawn a protective circle of snow to keep in warmth - and that's pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Rommy
DeleteMagical poem, Jae! I especially like the cats with their tangerine tongues. O my!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Magical
DeleteI wonder can we hold magic ransom and I wonder ultimately who will pay? The contrast of red and white - blood and purity finding a place of stability. Ok, I may be way off here, but this is what i am feeling today.
ReplyDeleteYou have an amazing way of conveying thoughts.
I hope you are feeling better these days.
Thank you Truedessa - am hanging on in there thanks
DeleteYour words enchant me. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you too Rose
DeleteDear Jae you twist my heart with your words. I am reminded of Snow White.

ReplyDeleteIn other words, I love it!
Anna :o]
Thank you Anna :-)
Delete"We change our self to fit the dangerous thoughts". This has been guilty of maiming so many hearts and killing so many tomorrows... You'd think we would know better by now. But we don't...
ReplyDeleteTrue indeed thank you Magaly
DeleteI love that this ends as it began.
ReplyDeleteThank you indybev
DeleteBrilliant - up there with some of your best work, Jae Rose. Being held captive by snow, it a lovely magic ... or so, I've always believed.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Wendy
DeleteWow such lines!! Love the tangerine tongues and peeling rain and "we are plural"... absolute gems Jae!
ReplyDeleteThanks Thotpurge
DeleteTruly makes stepping outside magical... I imagine this poem laced with laughter and wonder and the pair go about their day (hopefully it was you)
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed - thank you Margaret
DeleteSame as thotpurge, I really like the “we are plural” line Jae. I am not a fan of snow but I like the way it falls, at times it takes me back as a child. Hope you are doin’ fine Jae
ReplyDeleteThanks totomai - am doing ok thank you hope you are too
DeleteThis is a hot one!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dan
