Rocking Chair

Sometimes ghosts visit me in the night

They can be flourescent yellow

But if my head is clear

They are black and white

Rocking helps me feel safe

I like to go to a dark place

Wrap myself up and listen to bird song.

Bare

We look out the window

There is an asymmetry in being nothing

A bare tree

Where apples drop and swing

Is a place for us to be

I wonder where we belong

She giggles

Here

There

In the sky

Deep at the bottom of the sea

Playing hide and seek

With the bees

She licks her fingers

Traces the sticky back

Sometimes going backwards

Is the only way to see

Unpick the cravings

Bury the clues

Trace an outline of where it is safe to be

In our cosmos

A shining dot

Sweet as stars and honey

We look out the window

There is an asymmetry in being nothing

A beautiful bare tree.

Bug

Our dreams fall like stones
Broken countries
Bleeding down the window
Mixing with the bugs
And prayers
Alice hums a body and a bird
Chews her nails
I lie heavy
Seen but not heard
The sky is somewhere
She whispers
We fall like soldiers
In the muddy brown night
I hold my head
Thoughts like fire
Storming in and out
You can survive
She pokes the bugs away
The pain can wait
For morning
Blank paper
Words
Every cloud is a door
If you so choose
She sits up properly
It’s like comparing apples and pears
I remember the puzzles
She giggles
I look at her
Face
White
Like Rabbit
Like my face
Dropping like stones
Carved up in the night

Alice hums a body and a bird
I lie heavy
Seen but not heard.

Bowers

I tape the hinges
Curious she says
How some hinges can be fixed
And others swing like bowers
She inhales
Sweet as tear drops
On a rainy afternoon
The light burns
In the other room
We exist in darkness
Crawling with the bugs
In the darkest carpet fibres
They taste tangy
She says
Licking her fingers
Their little legs
Pop like cherries
In your teeth
She giggles
I run my tongue around the lip
Of the cup
It is chipped
Dry
Broken
I think you need to take a leap
Move rooms
Understand light
Swing a little in the vapid
Make some noise
Learn to play
Weave bobbins and flowers
Climb the stars
Wear daisies in your hair
When the fun stops
Stop
Remember
She swings her feet
Happy
I think

I tape the hinges
Curious she says
How some hinges can be fixed
And others swing like bowers.
