Hourglass

We spin the hourglass
This way
And that
Watch the sand flutter
From top to bottom
Moments passing
Quicker than our
Eyes can blink
Our breathing is shallow
It makes a change
From the usual gasps
And aches
We scatter our thoughts
Feverishly
Quick as a butcher's knife
Soon the light will fade
And we will be nothing
More than shadows
Bodies scattered
On the ground
Of course if we stop time
Just this instant
Daylight will remain
Night will be held off
We will exist
Like a fossil in amber
Glad of our life
I look into her eyes
They are the deepest blue
Like endless summer days
And the warmest oceans
Our fingers overlap on the hourglass
We are on this journey together
Not knowing where we are headed
But content
Glad that we have more sand
To spill
More time
To play
Sing in our words
Explode in our thoughts
And that is very magical indeed.

  1. This is very beautiful, Jae. So many lovely images: like a fossil in amber, like endless summer days, magical indeed. Happy New Year, kiddo.
