Solstice

The days are long
And restless
As shaky as grandfather's legs
We open the door
Gaze out to the world
There is a chill
In the air
But we sweat and shake
Our muscles weak
Our bones dead tired
We must gather our strength
Feed our soul
It is too soon to be done
We are like migrants
Living away on our laptop
The sun comes up
As shiny and bright
As the end of term
Perhaps we will celebrate solstice
Say a humble
And quiet prayer
Wish for a better new year
One that is stable
And full of light
And celebration.

  1. "The days are...As shaky as grandfather's legs" is such a great line! I love your closing lines about wishing for a better new year - heaven knows we could all use a better 2024. Let us hope!
