Contradiciton

We are a bundle of contradictions
Sat on the floor
Counting out our pennies
We wish for sleep
It doesn't come
We think of her
Writing letters in the attic
So full of life
We curl up in a ball
Wait for darkness
The sweet fall of powder
The stairs move like waves
We are prisoners here
No way out
No way in
Words fall like petals at our feet
We gather them up
Smell the sweet fragrance of jasmine and lemon
We are on a journey
We know the end
But fight for the middle
We are a bundle of contradictions
Aching for life
Waiting forever
The knock on the door signals an end
We don't know whether to embrace it or let it go
All we know for sure is the words
And the pennies that fall through our fingers.

  3. In ways, it seems we can sometimes feel we are in our own secret annex. I hear the struggling for the middle. I love the fragrances of jasmine and lemon. It is always such a pleasure to read you, jae.

  4. We all know our end. That's why fighting for the middle is so important. I love that image in your poem, Jae.

  5. You have written of perfect contradictions. Is it this way, or that? I love the last two lines...sometimes that is all we know. xoxoxo

  7. Anne Frank's diary is an excellent place to find succour, reflected in the lines:
    'We think of her
    Writing letters in the attic
    So full of life
We curl up in a ball
    Wait for darkness'.
    I also like the line:
    'The stairs move like waves'
    and
'Words fall like petals at our feet
    We gather them up'.

  8. How rich we are Jae in that abundance of words playing for us, writing sentences that mean something but only to ourselves but with pretty phrases so we get oohs! and ahhs! but not for the hurt that is there as inside us.
