The birds sweep and sway in the breeze
The colours burn the back of our eyes
We stare at the sun
It airs our clothes
The smell is morning dew
We remember everything
We remember nothing
Shh don't say a word
Smile
Wave
Parrot fashion
We stand on the top of the hill
Look down
Wonder what it would be like to fly
We don't have wings silly
She chuckles
Never leaves me
We are stranded in the rain forest
All alone
Falling down together.
I absolutely believe Costa Rica would totally immerse one's senses, invade all the crevices it is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis is beyond beautiful, Jae!💞
ReplyDeleteThere is a silliness in these lines that made me giggle inwardly
ReplyDelete"We stare at the sun
It airs our clothes"
much love...
A wonderful poem!!! I think you touched all the points of island life!
ReplyDelete"the colours burn the back of our eyes" – yes, how vivid they are! I have been calling those birds "fiery".
ReplyDeleteLove your description of such a beautiful place and your last lines "stick" to me "We are stranded in the rain forest All alone Falling down together." I like the thought of being in a rain forest and falling down together with my best friend :-)
ReplyDeleteI love that she is always with you. And the view from the top of the hill sounds beautiful, inspiring flight. It is always wonderful to read you, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThe first two lines give me such a vivid image, Jae. I love 'The smell is morning dew' and the lines:
ReplyDelete'Smile
Wave
Parrot fashion'.
I also like the way you evoke a child's voice in the lines:
'We don't have wings silly
She chuckles'.
Lovely descriptions. The wondering about what it would be like to fly and Alice's soft chuckle. We may not have wings but one can still wonder.
