It's all in the mind she says
I roll over in the empty bed
Morning comes and tricks us with its stare
The birds hoot
We laugh inside
Put on our clothes
Leave the house
Come back and all will be the same
It's all a game
The stolen man set us up
Holds a present in the air
Tricks our mind
I hold her tight
Nobody can steal our thoughts.
Loved this poem.Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but have you never heard of the 'thought police':)
ReplyDeleteThis has a lightness of being about it...almost playful. I like it a lot.
ReplyDeleteAlways in our lives we should remember to let the right one into our thoughts. Give them something but not what is precious.
ReplyDelete"Morning comes and tricks us with its stare" – an arresting line.
ReplyDeleteIt's true that nobody can steal your thoughts.
Awesome-est line
ReplyDelete"Morning comes and tricks us with its stare"
much love...
“They” can play tricks with our minds, but “nobody can steal our thoughts” enjoyed this write very much :-)
ReplyDeleteThe first to lines set the scene so perfectly.. the dialogue juxtaposed with the fact that the speaker is alone.. but not inside her head. Then your final three lines wrapped it all up perfectly. Incredible piece.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed this Jae. Though the mind tricks us, still our thoughts can be hopeful and no one can take them away.
ReplyDeleteThe tone and mood of your poem is different to the previous ones, Jae - does that mean that things are looking up?
ReplyDeleteI like the personification of morning that 'tricks us with its stare'. The noisy birds and the laughing lend buoyancy too, until we reach the lines with the 'stolen man' and the tone of the poem becomes quite fearful.
I am so happy to read you today, have been thinking of you. I love morning tricking us with its stare. Love the birds hooting outside, you laughing inside. I always love to read you, my friend. Your voice is all your own. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI knew that you would ace this prompt... love how you made it so playful too.
ReplyDeleteThat morning stare.. that never wavers. An intriguing write.
ReplyDeleteVery intriguing... had to read it a few times as it has layers.
ReplyDeleteMorning always plays tricks with me. My mind is a strange place.
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of tricks and pitfalls ahead, loved this poem.
