Imagine

Imagine if we could fly little cricket
We could visit the moon and stars
Sail over a thousand seas
The idea is sweet as candy
Delicious as lemon drops
We have left the red bed
Ventured outside
It makes our back and feet ache
And our head is sore
But it is better she whispers
Not to sleep your day away
To try and enjoy each moment
Or at least be present in it
Imagination is a good tool to own
We are not sure if it guides us
We find it hard to think outside ourselves
We are firmly fixed in our craniums
Sometimes that makes us happy
Other times it makes us feel sad
Distant from the world
We have never really belonged
When we were small that was good
Now we are big the distance feels greater
Just imagine if we could really fly
How magical it would be.

  1. I love your being out in the world and Alice's enjoyment at being present in the Now. It would be lovely to fly.......luckily we can do so in our imaginations....and in our poems! And yours are always wonderful.

You've beautifully related it to the urge to be able to fly, Jae! And done perfectly to the prompt with all the imagination aligned!

  3. I too imagine flying away, Jae, out my upstairs window. When I'm very sad I do that, I know though that I would go plop which wouldn't be all bad.
    Nice Write,
    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

  6. I get the sense of the persona finding a way beyond agoraphobia through the portals of imagination.. to a world free from fear.

  7. I love this, heck I love all of your poems. This one, with such yearning to fly (I relate) and yet not being sure if imagination is a good guide (yes, yes)... wow. It's beautiful and full of understanding. Wow.

  8. We may not truly fly but our lives are full of possibilities to do so much like that and we should never say we cant as it is better to say I'll try and then; I can!
