Our feet have tread many a path
Through holes and cupboards
Doors and floors
We have met many strange people
Some happy
Some mad
Just like us
We drank the potions
Ate the cake
Made it back in time for tea
Now we are in a loop hole
Having a new adventure
One with more light than shade
We have vanquished many demons
Got up from the floor
Looked out the windows
Wondered at the sky
Perhaps one day we will make it to the shoreline
Take in the salty air
Let our toes brush through sand
And our head fly away in the clouds
Sup up the wind like nectar
It was a long fall
But we got back up
Shrinking and growing
Learning our lessons as we went
Without thinking we hold hands
We are both warm
Alive
Here
It could have been a different story
One with a darker end
We got very close to the edge
She whispers
Life is so much better
I think
Now we have learnt to forgive ourselves.
I think this is a marvellous piece of writing Jae. Often we can use snippets of our own lives to construct poetic writing like this, and curiously it is exactly what I did with my piece too.
ReplyDeleteJae,
ReplyDeleteA magnificent journey through one's own world of actions. I think, as your poem suggests, it is forgiving ourselves, that is the hardest challenge in life...
An enjoyable fall down the rabbit hole, Jae! I love the lines:
ReplyDelete‘Perhaps one day we will make it to the shoreline
Take in the salty air
Let our toes brush through sand
And our head fly away in the clouds
Sup up the wind like nectar’.
The important thing is to learn to forgive oneself, and then everything falls into place.
Love this part of the journey. There's definitely a thrill of being meaningfully alive. Beautiful, Jae.
ReplyDeleteJae I love the hopefulness that light is radiating on your poem. Even the fall cannot quench the hope.
ReplyDeleteWell done!!!

And the gift of life enlarges with this story, this reckoning. How beautifully positive and perceptive!
ReplyDeleteAnd learning to forgive ourselves is the greatest part of the journey. There is light in this poem and the light spreads.
ReplyDeleteOh my friend, this is one wonderful poem. Such is the journey, the falling downs and the rising ups........love it that now is more light than shadow and especially love the closing lines, as forgiving ourselves is definitely the key to healing and better days. FANTASTIC poem. It makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteI like the honesty in this. We don't get everything right in life, but what we learn can be priceless. Love your ending. "Life is so much better
ReplyDeleteI think Now we have learnt to forgive ourselves."

ReplyDeleteThis if a very thoughtful perspective. Thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteThe key is unveiled at the end. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh that is beautiful - perhaps that is the hardest of all and the most rewarding- forgiving oneself. Thanks for writing this, Jae.
