She wraps her fingers around my ears
It is too loud here
We have been dragged from our sanctuary once again
Time tick tocks
Watch stopped on the time we were arrested
It's all so very wrong
Alice slouches on the single wooden bed
We will spend endless hours here looking at the walls
We try not to cry
To show weakness is a window to our soul
And that is empty and ruined
We have been dragged from our sanctuary once again
The doors locked
The chains rattle
We crave silence and the soft red bed
She wraps her fingers around my ears
It is too loud here
There's no place like home
To survive here we must forget it exists.
Yes, home is a sanctuary for most of us. Returning there must the prime goal when we are in trouble. How we wish for the sound of silence to live in our own calm. So glad you managed to post a poem today Jae.

DeleteA place far away from a sanctuary I must be hard to forget the sanctuary of home in such a place or you must forget to keep sane. Intriguing poem

DeleteThe sadness palpable. Home is a sanctuary.
ReplyDeleteYes it is - thanks Ayala
DeleteAah...The sanctuary that home is. This contrast with the world outside makes home all the more paradise like. And we can't be at home with anything / place that's loud and suffocating. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteBig sighs - thanks Sumana
DeleteWhat a brilliant closing line.
ReplyDeleteThanks S
DeleteWhile there are many ways to survive, perhaps to "forget" is one? Wrap your arms around the both of you, soon this will be over. I will keep my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteThank you Annell xo
DeleteI can feel the contrast, all the light and noise and bustle, against the thought of that quiet room, that red bed.........think of it as waiting for you, a place of comfort on your return. Meanwhile, build a little nest of hope in your heart, my friend. Better days ahead.
ReplyDeleteI hope so - thank you Sherry xo
DeleteSanctuary within each other. Perfect

ReplyDeleteIt's a good survival tool - thanks Rall
Delete"We have been dragged from our sanctuary once again" The sense that this happens over and over is painful, but to forget the red bed and sweetness to survive in the noise? That's asking too much. I want thos narrator to hold it in her heart. Another excellent poem--I feel it deeply.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Susan
Deletethe feelings have been brought alive...you express so well..!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sreeja
DeleteI wonder at the reasons for the dragging from your sanctuary and the fact that it is again. Thanks for contributing to the prompt.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul - the reasons are kind of indistinct even to me!
DeleteI find your poem painful to read, as you have conveyed the sense of anxiety and discomfort so well, immediately in the opening lines: and particularly in the lines:
ReplyDelete'It's all so very wrong
Alice slouches on the single wooden bed';
'The doors locked
The chains rattle';
and
'To survive here we must forget it exists'.
Thank you Kim

DeleteI have such a clear image of that "soft red bed" that I wonder just how difficult it might be to forget it's existence...
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed difficult to forget its existence - thanks Magaly
DeleteDistance and sanctuary has dumped you sadness in this brilliant write. Leaving me as reading feeling sad after reading
ReplyDeleteMuch love...
It is a bit of a sad time - thanks Gillena
DeleteSurvival requires that one forgets that home exists is somewhat counter intuitive, but it might be part of the weakness one has to avoid.
ReplyDeleteI think so - thanks Frank
DeleteHope you are feeling better, Jae. I can hear your voice resonates in the place. Hope you and Alice will be back to your sanctuary.
