We hold hands in a festival of foolish caravans
The walls are splattered and chilled
Stars coat our eyes
If only we could wear our poems
Fruit like wine
Drunk cool on a summer night
We pick out a favorite tune
Dance silently against the sheets
Pick a rhythm
Make a plume
False prophets on a quiet afternoon
We are only together by chance
Craving bitter fruits
Lining the floor with wet paper
Nothing takes the smell away
We are stuck in this chill
The walls splattered
Holding hands in a festival of foolish caravans
We should have listened before the sky fell down
Now we pick a path that aches and swirls
Never ending afternoon
Cash shot down like sheets in the wind
If only we could wear our poems
Fruit like wine
Drunk cool on a summer night.

Delight turns into something else as a couple drinks another glass of "if only".
ReplyDeleteExactly so - thank you Martin

I think we do wear them or as Robin also said, they wear us....we are united with them as they come from our core and speak from our soul!

DeleteIf only we could, indeed... I wonder what kind of verse we would choose for Mondays? Would Sundays be clad on flowery lines or fringed endings? "If only we could wear our poems", I wonder if my heart would choose to go naked... every now and again.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a good freedom - thanks Magaly

DeleteYour imagery, as always, is unique and glorious, the festival of foolish caravans, the false prophets on a quiet afternoon......sometimes the escapes we seek return us to a sadder place. Am thinking of you, kiddo. I send you a little potted bloom to brighten your day.

To be in a drunken stupor is the consequence of delights of drinking but a choice of regret. Very true Jae!
