Asks for shoes you can wear in the rain
We put cement in our boots
Jump in puddles
My hair silver
Your bones gold
Simple ghosts
Blinded on a mission
Like scraping toast off butter
Heave-ho reality down the drain
Catch it in our fingers
Such a funny game
It dribbles down arms
Filthy as wax
On a blood night
Eat them for tea
Do you see the blue bottles
Such a funny game
Light a candle
Scale a hill
Check for ragged flesh
check
dripping
down
Wrap our dreams up in a cape
Asks for shoes you can wear in the rain
We put cement in our boots
Jump in puddles
I think he was
Check
Check
Checking
On me
Such a funny game.
Beautiful, Jae Rose. Love catching souls in umbrellas and wrapping dreams in a cape.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Nara...good to see you too!
DeleteFor all its lightheartedness this does have darker elements as shown in the penultimate stanza. We all live in our parallel worlds, spinning around doing our own thing. Honey has been used traditionally as a wound and burn dressing for years. Now I am still trying to work out the rain...tears perhaps. I love your writing Jae.
ReplyDeleteThank you Old Egg..yes honey is soothing inside and out..we like it...the rain was just that...rain.. thank you kindly as always
DeleteOh yes, yes, yes!!! Jae!!!! I agree with Nara - love 'catching souls in umbrellas and wrapping dreams in a cape" but love the entire poem as well - the images of dripping candles and pure joy of the dance with honey rubbed in the skin - mystical magical marvelous!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Pearl..glad we started the day with a little mysticism and magic :)
DeleteImage piled upon image! What a romp through through language and mystery!
ReplyDeleteIf only an umbrella were an adequate tool for catching a soul...
I suppose it depends on the size of the umbrella..and the size of the soul (not to sound too much like Alice!) thank you Magical :)
DeleteSounds very ironical...'such a funny game' repeat inforce the tragedy actually...but at least we're dancing, our bodies enjoy water, right? and honey too... and who said it will be easy - two sides: pain and pleasure...~ thanks, Jae :)x
ReplyDeleteThank you too humbird...the two always seem to go hand in hand..you're right... Thanks muchly :)x
DeleteYour images are intriguing, this is certainly my favourite so far. Have a good Sunday
ReplyDeleteMuch love...
Thank you very much Gillena..have a wonderful Sunday too
DeleteWhat a wonderful strange poem. Like the cement in the boot part, reminds me how supposedly the Mafia got rid unwanted people.

Thank you very much Cathy - wonderful and strange sounds apt...don't think we have the mafia in these parts..but will my check my boots in thee morning..thank you!
DeleteI like the cement in boots to make the puddles dance higher and faster. We all play funny games with words and other things. Dancing in the rain seems a celebration of the moment, but then there is all that checking. We so often spoil it for ourselves.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
We do indeed..thank you kindly Elizabeth..at least the puddles are high and fast
DeleteDon't fall in the river with cemented boots! The poem is intriguing.
ReplyDeleteNo - will be sure to stay safely on the bank...thank you Viv..
DeleteJumping in puddles with cement in your boots would make a significant splash. Every element of this piece is wonderful and I agree with Old Egg, although it is lighthearted on the surface there are darker undercurrents.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Belva..it will be a strange day indeed when it is lighthearted both inside and out
DeleteCatch our soul in an umbrella
ReplyDeleteWrap our dreams up in a cape
Different images brought out coupled with soul given protection and saved for another day. Good to have dreams that can be achieved. Great write Jae!
Hank
Thank you very much Hank..yes..i suppose it is protecting things in the hope of the next day..thank you!
DeleteHi Jae Rose, your poem is very unique.
ReplyDeleteHi Usha...thank you kindly
