Corner
The day gathers in the corner of my mouth
High or dead
It changed my life
This is the same room
No side clip piece eclipse at the back of my throat
I shot Alice
Cemented her
Into the corners of this house
This dream
This mouth
High or dead
She changed my life
She stumbles tumbles trips
Holding her head
Right into my arms
I made her stay
I need need needed her
I can manufacture a secret they will want to steal
I will never give her up this up us up
I choose this
The same room
A million lacklustre dreams swept under powder covers
I hike her little blue dress
Wipe the tears spilling down her cheek with the dirty white frills
Honor her
Absolve her
Love her
I ask for nothing more
The day gathers in the corner of my mouth
High or dead
I changed my life.
It is good to know what we need in life. And I find the day gathers in the corner of the mouth…..love you honey.
ReplyDeleteIt is...thank you Annell..love back j&t xo
DeleteI must say that I am shivering with grim delight over this darkling poem--and giving thanks with all my heart that I am not Alice! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly Magical...Alice has a tough job it's true...but she is much loved and a fellow darkling too at heart!
DeleteChange is the best way to get something different. It's worth the risk in despite everything else.
ReplyDeleteYes...the only way...if you keep doing the same thing..you get the same results as they say...thank you kindly and bestly Nara!
DeleteAlice is and has been your alter ego for a number of years. We probably all have an Alice if we dare to admit it. One to tempt us, to tease us, and to love us too. Whenever we give up a bad habit we see our "Alice" crying in the corner. I wonder whether writing about our weaknesses, as I do too, strengthens us; I hope so. You are really gifted Jae.
ReplyDeleteShe has been there for a while hasn't she...I think she is the strong and weak part made likeable by the fact that she is still a child..and therefore rightly exploring and learning about the world (albeit my rather shabby one)... I hope you are right - you usually are - thank you kindly Old Egg...
DeleteWe are all a bit darkling, if we are honest. But, we must be careful. If we stuff too much in that corner of the mouth, it can choke us, leaving us with nothing but silence. I say yeah, for those words spit out into the darkling Universe...they all do find home, like Alice.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
What a wonderful thought - that the darkest thoughts find home..or a home...perhaps words are healthier things to fill up on than dark thoughts though...thank you kindly and brightly Elizabeth
DeleteOne full of readiness to sacrifice despite trying times. Sometimes one needs to be tough and unyielding. Nice take Jae!
ReplyDeleteHank
Yes toughness can help..thank you very much Hank!
DeleteImaginative play on the fairy tale..great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathy - I suppose it is a kind of fairy tale...maybe the dust is of the fairy kind too!
DeleteL like how you move from "It changed my life." to "I changed my life." A shift in responsibility.
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly J Cosmo - and for spotting that...it falters at times but is the way ahead
DeleteWow. This is poignant. Just creepy enough, but addictive in a way that, even if it went much further, I would have had to keep reading. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Alicia - I am sure j can offer you up a few more creepily addictive scribbles!
DeleteI like the progression made in this. We all have the power to change our lives. Thanks for pointing that out.
ReplyDeleteThank you Belva...I suppose it is a progression - I hadn't seen it quite so clearly either so thank you too!
DeleteThat first line is pure gold!
ReplyDeleteIt's good you can control Alice I think. Maybe we all need an Alice or maybe we all have one but lose touch with her for whatever reason. You have me wondering now.
Thank you very much Dee...I suppose we choose the little companion inside of us...I hope they are always there when we need them
DeleteJae, the last three lines are very powerful, but the whole poem is splendid. Sorry for the late visit.
ReplyDeletePamela ox
Thank you Pamela...maybe you're very early for this Sunday so no need to apologise! A peaceful Thursday to you xo
DeleteI'm so happy with this progress. ps: so no more Alice? ~ sorry, I progress slowly this week...:)x
ReplyDeleteThank you humbird..i think Alice will stay with us for a while...she can withstand the odd shoot out ;)
