Theft

There are thieves
Dripping off the walls
The windows
They had no air
I could not touch
What was
What was
Lost
Air is what we craved
Space to breathe
We did not rest
Sleep
Close our eyes
For over three hundred days
Now
Now we ask for them to see us differently
They do not care
They locked us up
They did their job
We got what we were due
Help
How outrageous to ask
We remember the woman
The woman we did not see
Who talked to us as we stood
Jittery in the church yard
Should we
Shouldn’t we
She said it was right
To call someone
If we needed
Help
But we know
We know how help
Scrapes and burns
As our skin drops off
The thieves wait underground
To pounce when we are alone
Again
We are alone
Again
The thieves don’t look for silver or gold
They look for something more satisfying to devour
A gorgeous feast
That has no more meaning than air
They look for me
I will never forget
There are three hundred more days
Left
To deceive them.

  1. What is that you bring out...it is so very intense... sometimes very difficult to pickup...yet deceiving the deception itself needs enormous effort..

  2. Indeed, Jae, we both know how help scrapes and burns. Bury yourself in the deception, but don't get lost. We want you with us.

  4. It sounds as though those memories are still eating away. It is as though the fear of a return is giving the narrator nightmares. This is not treatment but torture. You have been spilling your heart out for some time but the ones that need to listen, never do. Freedom is very hard won Jae.

  5. We are never truly free of those who would "help" us. We can only live in a way that proves them wrong.

  7. Creepy and macabre, very effectively described. No air no help just being underground! Nicely Jae!

  9. It's so annoying the way the people who should help just assume the problem is that you didn't ask when you needed it. Yeah, maybe asking will help, but plenty of times it actually makes things worse. Especially when the thieves are around.

  11. Gorgeous feasts tend to transform one into a walking dart board. Makes the natives edgy and sharpen their spears. Best keep them to yourself. Tea is good. Biscuits will lead to mince pies fruit cake and ultimately a heavy duty swimming programme:)

  12. A great sense of oppression and domination in this; just a flicker of hope at the end.
