Winter wraps her cool fingers around my throat
A breeze and lifting
We take our stand
A firm hand
A steady rudder
All around us is noise
We hold our head between our knees
All is clam
All is well
We watch the words fall on the paper
Winter wraps a cool finger.
The wrapping of those cool fingers sounds ominous, but maybe I am misreading the metaphor.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I feel those cold fingers, I become an indoor hermit, fleecy blankets, good books piled high, and movies. I like "a firm hand, a steady rudder." All is well indeed. At least within our homes, if not the world.
ReplyDeleteOh, those cold fingers on the throat can be felt in your words.
ReplyDelete"We take our stand" gives me the hope for strength and survival.

Snow / words on paper--cool! Winter can not keep the words from flowing--it has fingers, but the speaker here has a steady hand . . .
ReplyDeleteWinter is always a sad time as so much takes their leave and we are left in the cold like a spurned lover. However I am sure you will still get those words or yours falling on the paper Jae...so keep warm.
ReplyDeleteWhat an opening line, Jae! I love this poem.
