Moonlight

You went missing in the passing moonlight
I pretend to kiss
A gentle message
We are all bent out of shape
No sense of home or peace
The ink spins
We post letters
Hope for a return
The taste of peppermint on our tongues
All will pass
Like stars on a clear night
Beautiful and flashing
We can taste the air
Inhale everything we see
Clear as a song
Inject a spectacle of frogs
Leaping and jumping
You went missing in the passing moonlight.

  1. How mush love and feeling is in your writing now Jae. I like the new style you have created which is so full of beautiful metaphors and visual scenes.

  4. Since moving away from Sunday's Whirls'n Gigs I've mised your poems, and I return to find a new you! I've read several of your recent pieces and I found them absolutely delightful. This one is the icing on the cake, peppermint icing of course!

  6. I love the way the opening and end lines seal the rest of the poem into a shaft of moonlight, Jae, and the way the message unfolds between them. I particularly love the lines:
    'The ink spins
    We post letters
    Hope for a return'
    and
    'We can taste the air
    Inhale everything we see
    Clear as a song'.

  7. I do agree about the peppermint... the sting of what is passing. Something we love despite the pain maybe.

  8. I think I agree.. we are all bent out of shape.. one distortion looking for comfort in another! Nicely done Jae.

  9. So the kiss! Oh! and longing for the peppermint return! Add frogs and it is one misty but fresh air. Gorgeous! (Alice has been gone for a while, and I wonder if it was she who tasted of peppermint?)

  10. Maybe the secret to a life well lived is inhaling everything we see? Maybe...

  12. I love your frogs! Bring back memories. It was the summer after his death, you gave me shelter. All the frogs in the world lived in the little pond in the back yard, where we sun bathed. It was time of magic and great sorrow.

  13. Such a beautiful poem. I am enchanted by it! I love the "stars on a clear night" and "clear as a song". "Everything passes." Indeed it does, so we must enjoy while we can.

  14. This is so beautiful. I read it several times. It touched the grieving part of me. Thank you Bjorn.

  15. Oops. Sooooo Sorry Jae. I have no idea why I wrote "Bjorn". Where is my head? Anyway, you know I love you and wouldn't, once awake, mistake you for anyone else.

  16. If a perfect haiku could have 18 lines and many syllables, it would be like this one. I feel your poem caught a moment perfectly.

  17. I wouldn't mind if our batch of frogs (toads) stuck to leaping and jumping, or did go missing. They are particularly deafening tonight.

  18. Excellent!
I wasn't sure whether to leap with joy or fall in despair... let me re-read it... yup!
Good Job! (for my feeble mind:)

  22. I love the ending. The visual... sorry, really jumps out at you. But it does!

  23. Yes, it reads like a Van Gogh painting. There are so many visual images.

  24. Inject a spectacle of frogs - so unexpected a line and idea, but it really works incredibly well -
and the idea of peppermint - a tonic and balm .... they swirl in my mind ... an incredible sense of wondering at loss and the searching for, the hope - and yet, this is a piece that presents two sides - joy and despair - and interesting compliment to each other .... it's very rich.
