Thud

The wheels turn on the cold grey floor
We are lying still
Mind stirring
A pot full of embarrassment and decay
Wrapped up in a silent crisis
We gobble the sweet powder
Down
Crying
Laughing
Who knows which way is up any more
Alice giggles
Turning tricks
At the table once again
I’m a hundred and fifty you know
Together we barely scrape an eight ball
Flying high
Like a kite
Struggling
Breathing
Mind stirring
A pot full of embarrassment and decay
Wrapped up in a silent crisis
Thick as rain
Wet hair
Fingers sticky in anticipation
Of the next hit
And the next
Thoughts
Falling through forest veins
Like wheels
Unruly
Cold
Grey
Floor
Thud.

  1. I love how your pictures tell a story too, with this week's showing a cold heart in the snow but the fallen leaf a sign of hope that better times will come. However getting to bed before falling thud on the floor is still my preference! For all the sadness I still see the touch of humour in your writing Jae.

  2. Wow. How vivid. It takes me to the fall I had last week, on the concrete street, so embarrassed that the pain didn't hit me until later. I had forgotten falling as it had been two years since the last one. And this is a gem, a truth, an amazing image:
    "Thoughts
    Falling through forest veins
    Like wheels . . . "

  3. Very intriguing write Jae, I was hanging in looking for the wheels, and they did appear never too soon. My favourite linet today is
"A pot full of embarrassment and decay"

    Have a nice Wednesday

  4. I can hear the thud, and can vividly see the picture you paint:

    We are lying still
    Mind stirring
    A pot full of embarrassment...

    Well captured!

  8. Love your image, red heart in snow, cradling dried leaf. I'm not sure of its' meaning, but would a lovely title for another poem, RED HEART IN SNOW, CRADLING DRIED LEAF. Love your "forest veins." Yes, you are a wizard when it comes to words and of course with a little of Alice's help! After all you can't be 150 and not have picked up some wisdom along the way.

  9. Although your poem is about one thing, I take another from it: the way we can topple and lose our balance when riding a bike. Life is often like a bike ride, unfortunately. But we get up, dust ourselves off, and ride off for more.

  11. This is very vivid. I feel the cold floor, the embarrassment and, especially, the thud. I, too, love the lines about thoughts falling through forest veins. Gorgeous. Love the photo too - the bright red heart, once so hopeful, now on the ground, in snow.....sigh.

  12. Falling down is not the end of the world, unless we choose to let it be. Take it from someone who has been a clutz most of her life. Besides, the air above is always cleaner and clearer.

  15. A ride like that is best taken only once! Your line,"Who knows which way is up anymore?" How many times have I felt like that!!! Your picture and poem hint at cocaine use but I'm not sure because it could mean other things but I experimented with drugs and that is one drug that would spin wheels forever without going anywhere and I think that's the meaning of your poem. Very well put, Jae!
