This moment
This moment
Lasts forever
And yet it is
Nothing
At
All
I am no more
Than
A
Hospital
Towel
To be
shaken folded stowed away
She choked
I heard the numbers
Beep
The gasp
The image
Of a face turning blue
She choked
She choked
And it was me
Sat in the dark
listen listen listening
Wishing it was me
Gasping
Losing breath
When you lose breath
You lose thought
Losing thought
Losing thought
Is blessed blessed blessing
No more struggle in the dust
No more feet held in the shackles of powder
Ah, but then
But then
It goes back
To the first thought
The only thought
Back to the miracle of dust and powder
Instant trip fall ride
There is a balance
In the chaos of anoxia
The slap of darkness
Welcome in the night
When eyes are open
And sleep doesn’t come
And all there is
Life
In a small bottle under the bed
This moment
This moment
Lasts forever
And yet it is
Nothing
At
All.
By the same token, forever only lasts a moment...
ReplyDeletemaybe so..thank you Stan..though hospital time follows different rules..
DeleteI do so hope that this is not autobiographical! :-)
ReplyDeletei wish it were not too..thank you
DeleteJae, this moment is everything even though it looks small because it contains a tiny grain of hope. That is all you need and it will grow to the size you want it to be and it is as free as a bird.
ReplyDeleteI do so hope..thank you..
DeleteEternity is made up of an infinite number of individual moments - it would be wrong to let any one of them take precedence over all the others.
ReplyDeleteInfinite outside the locked door..finite within..thank you..
DeleteI love your poem. Stan's comment is so true.
ReplyDeleteThank you..
DeleteI am thankful for every moment you are here..
ReplyDeleteThank you Dee.. what a lovely thing to say x
DeleteYes, this moment is all things...and all we have, if only we can stop carring all the other moments.
ReplyDeletethey weigh so heavy sit like stones..takes many years for them to be ground back down to sand..
DeleteThere is no tomorrow...only now...this moment...and the moment I spent whirling among your words was a precious moment for me...
ReplyDeleteThank you Old Grizz..kindly..
DeleteA moment can be fleeting or everlasting. A moment is what you want it to be.
ReplyDeleteYes..with a lot of trying..thank you..
DeleteWhew! I agree with Stan that forever is only a moment, as well. This moment is truly, the only one we have and when I remember that, I remember to stay present to it because everything else that comes after is based in it. That's an awful lot for one little moment to handle,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
Yes..a big moment on tiny shoulders..thank you Elizabeth..
DeleteSome brilliant lines here :
ReplyDelete"I am no more
Than
A
Hospital
Towel
To be
shaken folded stowed away"
Thank you Green Speck..
DeleteThose repetitions are interesting. And I really like that image "no more
ReplyDeleteThan
A
Hospital
Towel
To be
shaken folded stowed away"
If you don't mind a suggestion, adding all those caps to the short lines distracts from the lines themselves. I think there's power here, though. Plenty.
Thanks for the suggestion..
Deleteoops. blogger ate my comment.
ReplyDeleteI like the image "no more
Than
A
Hospital
Towel
To be
shaken folded stowed away"
Plenty of powerful words here. Maybe a little moderation with the cap letter short lines. They work the way you want, but perhaps a little too well.
Thank God for that small bottle under the bed...
ReplyDeleteYes..thank you Berowne..
DeleteYou know, every moment is a treasure. We have to find meaning in each moment that we have. It really doesn't last forever. It is fleeting. It is ALL we have.
ReplyDeleteAll consuming..but wish it was a happy all consuming moment..thank you Mary..
DeleteThe distancing that can occur, when our bodies betray us, is captured excellently here. The stretching of that moment can be forever- loved the repeated phrase
ReplyDelete"Yet it is
Nothing
At
All."
It emphasized the single second it can take for a moment to become an eternity.bottle under
Oops, didn't finish! I was also trying to say that I loved the image of the bottle under the bed, bringing a welcome "slap of darkness".
ReplyDeleteThank you Abigail..always appreciate your insight..
DeleteGreat imagery, and like Viv, I hope there's a lot of poetic license here. Buddhism teaches that we must stay in the moment because it's the only thing that's real.
ReplyDeletemindfulness..when taught behind steel doors is not the best lesson..outside..when the moment truly is yours..absolutely..thank you Ann
Deletethis woman voices the secret fears we all harbor. 'cepting she is
ReplyDeletesooooooooooooooo raw and open. well written and felt.
Thank you Paige.. sooooooo..
DeleteOne breath, one moment, one word written by you and given to us is everything. The interaction, the connection is what life is. One breath, then another, someday fresh air in the ocean breeze!
ReplyDeleteYes..that would be nice..thank you Josie..
DeleteThere is a balance
ReplyDeleteIn the chaos of anoxia
... only when that "fix" comes from a higher power is there a real feeling of ecstasy.
True..i hope it happens one day..thank you Laurie..
DeleteIf only the stones, weighing heavy, eroded in an instant and the incredible lightness, brightness, rightness of being J could immediately be realized, appreciated, celebrated.
ReplyDeleteI wish i wish but i am buried in stones..
DeleteParts of this are very real to me. Life a moment from my life.
ReplyDeletethanks Annie
Deletemoments can be slow or fast... depends on whether we allow to be trapped by reality or not
ReplyDeleteI hope never to be trapped my reality..thank you totomai..
DeleteLove the rapid fire thoughts strung together so expressively. Nicely done, JaeRose.
ReplyDeleteThanks kindly Walt
DeleteNo moment is impossible to get out of, but some, like this one, are bloody awful and feel like forever,,,,you write with so much emotion that an outside body almost feels pain,,,and the almost is what separates us,,,,may those stones be lifted and soon,,,
ReplyDeleteThanks Ellecee..maybe i should hire a bulldozer!
DeleteThis poem is wonderfuly written. I usually read posts an non-biographical, but since the comments indicate otherwise, (and even though I am still a new reader to your blog) I just wanted to say that I hope that it gets better for you. I am sending out hugs nd strength for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Heidi..greatly appreciated..
DeleteYou're so right. Losing certain thoughts is a blessing!
ReplyDeleteThank you Belva..
