Liberty

Alice shakes the dust off her boots
We are free
The gnats fly and soar
We buzz them with our words
Words are powerful she giggles
We eat dinner on the floor
It is safer that way
The birds fly and soar
We think we remember his name but we have forgotten
Liberty trails at our feet
The cans make it better
For a short while
Alice shakes the dust off her boots
We are free.

  2. Gnats and birds! Makes me wonder if Lady Liberty's uplifted torch also functioned to ward off perceived evils from the beginning! Ha. Be free, poet Jae Rose.

  3. I enjoyed the allusion to Liberty with your use of buzz, soar, free, fly, safer and powerful... It makes for an uplifting write!

  4. The gnats and birds are soaring and you eat dinner on the floor. This makes me smile. A Mad Hatter's Tea Party. I want to come!

  5. We never appreciate how great freedom is until we lose it. What a great example Alice is when we recall all that she went through on her adventures being strong and resourceful throughout. Oh that we could be the same. I shake my head at the cans...they merely rattle with laughter.
