We roam the streets looking for answers
The strange rattle of empty cans interferes with our soul
Nothing measures up to the high we once had
All around us is the silent roar
We cup our ear to the bed
Try not to sink
Always waiting
Tomorrow never enough
It all seems so unfair she moans
It is hot
The pillow is static
Feint marks of blood on the sheets
A wilderness we cannot tame
We wish a thousand dreams
Totter on the stairs
Nothing measures up to the high we once had.
How can I ever forget the feeling of this wilderness, the lack of control and inability to tame? Out there in nature, I can laud the wilderness, but inside me, I can barely enter the spiritual unknown, never mind the harsher places out of control.

ReplyDeleteGood introduction. Your 'Wilderness" carries the same equation as mine today
much love...
Sadly that is life the highs are in our memories never in the now, they are for remembering in our lonely or sad times to remind us they were once happy.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it seems just so, and for days one can wander through the wilderness, only to find the unexpected, overlooked, simply perfect......may your day be filled with wonder.
ReplyDeleteIt is true, we can never regain the high we once had. But we can find the substance in what is Now, which has much that is beautiful in the natural world. I send you some wagging doggy tails and grins, and the song of a thrush, to cheer you.
ReplyDeletefascinating and gripping poem, with some brilliant imagery and the sense of looking for the wilds ... for the high ... of what was ... once - but can never be replicated .... this has a great pulse to it

It is such a bitter thought to face up to reality after having experienced good times. There are folks who give up and retire into the wilds looking for consolation!

"A wilderness we cannot tame" Specially when it's within. And the wish for a thousand tottering dreams has such a deep longing.....
ReplyDeleteThe highs are great...The lows, the pits...the mostly middles are to be endured. Ca c'est la vie !That is why people take drugs to get through Endurance testing can be turned into an art form and become an end in itself with a little help of treats like triple choc milks laced with baileys or fresh sponge cake covered in strawberries and passion fruit cream. You get fat but you keep your marbles ( well sort of:)
ReplyDeleteOh, to simply experience the wilderness without succumbing to the temptation to tame it. Great write!
