We sleep on a bed of cans
A puzzle still and simple
Our bones ache
Already Spring brings it's gloomy promise
We act the fool
An easy softening
Stolen wishes
A trim stand
Twisting and aching in the night
The prize is sleep
A ring and smell of glue
We sleep on a bed of cans
A puzzle still and simple.
As Shelley wrote "If Winter comes can Spring be far behind" however I don't think he thought that was gloomy Jae he just didn't have central heating!
ReplyDeleteGloomy promises of spring hurt...
ReplyDeleteBed of cans, ouch. Love's nails are sometimes shaped that way. The puzzle is why.
ReplyDeleteYou do have a way with startling imagery that really sets the mood of a piece beautifully. How can Spring be the needed rebirth, if there is no peace in winter's sleep?
ReplyDeleteindeed "the prize is sleep" - such a contrast with this bed of cans - and can'ts perhaps too?! Clever use of Spring in inverted mood and reference to bed springs
ReplyDeleteClever write Jae.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts were of glue-sniffers...?
Anna :o]
"The prize is sleep"
ReplyDeleteSleep is indeed a prize, weather the bed is sturdy or shaky
Happy Sunday Jae
much love...
To feel the spring as a gloomy promise makes this feel even darker.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. A good "thinking" poem. Is it a bed things that we can do?
ReplyDelete"...We sleep on a bed of cans
ReplyDeleteA puzzle still and simple."
What else can anyone say? Awesome.

The cans would make the bed uncomfortable, for sure........."twisting and aching in the night"............I wish you a bed made with fresh clean sheets, nothing in it other than a pillow, blankets and you. Sweet dreams.
ReplyDeleteSpring like life can bring a promise not realized....
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your write. But that bed of cans?
ReplyDeleteLovely poem...Wishing you sweet dreams in comfortable beds.
ReplyDeletegreat imaginations.
ReplyDelete"We act the fool
ReplyDeleteAn easy softening" Yes it can be, in those moments we forget and just be the fool, liked this a lot,,,
