Bittersweet

The words won't come
We try to summon them but all that comes is paper cuts and wine
The tissue underneath the pillow is greying
The cans are running low
We dream of snakes and bears
It's a bittersweet symphony that's life
We heard that in a song
The words won't come
We try to summon them but all that comes is paper cuts and wine.

  1. Well at least there is wine.

Life is bitter sweet, and the wise ones figure out you have to take the good with the bad. Though at times it seems the scales are a bit out of balance.

Words...will do what they will. Come, go. Hopefully we are ready when they decide to grace us. Waiting can be so frustrating though.

  3. What Rajani says! And because of the magic, because of the stream of words--we must persist. Thank you again. To write like this requires so much faith in one's self.

  6. Yes, sometimes those words just won't come, and that is definitely more bitter than sweet....when we try as hard as we can to summon them.

  8. I love "the bittersweet symphony that's life".......so beautiful, Jae. Papercuts and wine sound bittersweet as well. I love "We dream of snakes and bears." Your words always gift us with unexpected images that are so unique.

  9. I guess we wouldn't appreciate the sweet were it not for the bitter. Thank heaven life isn't all paper cuts and wine (and I loved this analogy!)

  10. Sadly life is a "bittersweet symphony". Lucky are those that live without hurt and trauma in theirs. I too want to applaud the inventiveness of your writing and how helpful it is to read others work to improve our own.

  11. "Paper cuts and wine" such an interesting juxtaposition of the writers struggle for words. This phrase by itself is enough poetry;Jae

  12. Sometimes the bitter can seem bigger than the sweet, but it is not. I think we can all relate to these lines Jae! Your beautiful imagery always takes my hand and leads me to the last line Utterly lovely writing as always!
