She whispers rancid shadows in the night
I wait for an end that never comes
It is hard to think of where we are
Better that dawn spills over in a trance
We drink the water down
I ache for pins and powder
A leap of faith to touch
Empty ripples within our belly
Walking in circles
Nonchalant
Scintillating
A flagrant misuse of time
A flagrant misuse of time
Each day carries a hopeless wish
A step
A whisper
A shadow
A small miracle to ignite our way
Better that light spills over in a trance
I wait for an end that never comes
Better late than never
She whispers rancid shadows in the night.
What a brilliant photo to go with your writing Jae. I wish I had someone like Alice to whisper to me as I struggle on, a small miracle would come in handy too. But a must disagree with the flagrant use of time as writing makes up for that so much, I don't know where I'd be without it,
ReplyDeleteMe neither - thank you kindly Old Egg
DeleteI agree.....writing gives us purpose, and chronicles our passage. I am struck by the lines "each day carries a hopeless wish / a step /a whisper / a shadow".
DeleteThank you Sherry
DeleteA phrase gains meaning through a small miracle. Nice creation.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to have a wish in each day. No one knows when a small miracle may strike filling the wish with hope :)
ReplyDeleteVery true - thank you Sumana :-)
DeleteThis is beautifully poignant, Jae. I agree writing lets us explore our feelings and helps us pour them on the page. Especially love; "each day carries a hopeless wish /a step /a whisper /a shadow."
ReplyDeleteThank you Sanaa
DeleteI love what you did with these words, Jae. "Whispers rancid shadows" is fantastic. The idea of a hopeless wish still contains hope somehow. Maybe that's the miracle.
ReplyDeleteThank you Brenda
DeleteFull of yearnings and so poetical told... Some real muscular great lines here too:
ReplyDelete"A flagrant misuse of time
Each day carries a hopeless wish"
AND
"A small miracle to ignite our way
Better that light spills over in a trance"
Are my particular faves... Great!
Thanks Scott
DeleteWe always should live in hope of those 'small miracles' that appear, from time to time, in our lives. Have a good Sunday, Jae.
ReplyDeleteAnd a good Sunday back to you Mary - thank you
DeleteThere are still enough droplets of hope sprinkled in this melancholy seeking to make a good thirst-slaking mouthful. I hope it sustains the protagonist to the next day.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope thanks Rommy
Deletehope there to overcome the rancid shadows.., wonderful wordplay as ever Jae.
ReplyDeleteThank you Thotpurge
DeleteI wait for an end that never comes. Me too! Delightful Jae.

Thank you most delightfully Keith
DeleteLike Sherry, I like that you list of wishes for each day...yes, the end, is the destination, still it is really the journey, so unpredictable, it is said you couldn't write it, only "the end" we know for sure. It was a day, like anyother day.....
ReplyDeleteThank you Annell let's hope for good days
DeleteThrough the darkness we should stay hopeful for those small miracles.
ReplyDeleteLove the thought (and the visual tingles) of "A small miracle to ignite our way".
ReplyDeleteThanks Magaly - I like the idea of visual tingles :)
DeleteA feeling of staying overlong in a doomed relationship ... at least that's what I take from this intriguing poem. Time to move on?
ReplyDeleteMaybe so - thank you indybev
DeleteI am so often guilty of "a flagrant misuse of time." Is there any hope for me?
ReplyDeleteI hope so - thanks Magical ;)
DeleteYour opening and closing lines are especially striking, Jae!

DeleteSometimes we have to work even at having hope. Guess that's why it's considered a virtue. As always, loved your poem.
ReplyDeleteIt is a work in progress - thank you as always Myrna
DeleteThat last line ~ shivers ~ the quiet whisper of despair. Powerful writing!
ReplyDeleteThank you Wendy
DeleteSpills over in a trance says it all.
ReplyDeleteThanks Colleen
DeleteWhen hope grows thin with rancid shadows, I reach out to someone who can fill my gaps and wrinkles. It most often works,
