Net

Alice rings the bell
We are lost at sea
Casting nets in murky waters
Chasing words and symbols
Blind
Breathing
Aching to be free
Hatter holds his lady’s hand
Run for your life he mutters
And we do
Navigating feet and chests
All coat tails and swagger
Tattoos and smoke
I hang my head in shame
What have I become
Lying on this ocean floor
Shells and cockles stuck in matted hair
Dreams mixed in powders
Poison and succour
She rolls the can
Another day done
We cast a little hiccup
An organic wave
Sparks between you and him and me

Alice rings the bell
We are lost at sea
Casting nets in murky waters
Blind
Breathing
Aching to be free

Run for your life he mutters
And we do.

  1. I hope you and Alice found your way from that sea and find a shore to hang onto and be happy.

  2. Run for your life...or stroll peacefully along a country lane and let the birds sing you songs of early summer.........I always love reading you, Jae........I love shells and cockles, wherever I might find them.

  3. "We are lost at sea
    Casting nets in murky waters
    Blind
    Breathing
Aching to be free"~ So many times we feel lost in the sea of life and crave to get liberated. Beautiful poem. Loved reading it.

  4. I love this:
    "We cast a little hiccup
    An organic wave
Sparks between you and him and me" To notice this despite the lostness, panic and need to run--it's a sign of life!

  5. There is hope in that spark, breathe on it, keep it alive, and know that nothing has been lost. We must all swim in unknown seas, and all must learn how to stay afloat. In that learning, we find others of like mind, following similar sparks.

  6. What a fantastic deep piece this is Jae (like the oceans). With the Hatter appearing it is as though it is portent of things to come which is so apt considering the madness of our abuse of the oceans. Deep very deep!

  11. Ah, it's maddening to breathe through such murky waters. It makes me wonder if we can ever find ourselves again. Perhaps, that hiccup is the only hope for things to change for the better. Rest, we will keep on running away because that's our basic instinct.

I find a certain anguish in this verse. And it is beautiful.

  12. When lost at sea, we really need to try as hard as we can to find our way! Sometimes running for one's life is the best option!

One can find oneself in very embarrassing situations in unfamiliar circumstances sometimes. Very true Jae!

Poignant piece, Jae. Great reminder, for sure! Thank you...
