We catch words in the air
Run jump toss our veins to the side
They are there for the taking
We keep score in the darkness
We create a mass of muscles
Taut and dangerous
Impossible to balance
We make a frantic dash to the points
Hang like boys from the tree
Glancing down
Quietly laughing
Alice melts the ends of the rope
Creates a little swing
She will stay there for hours
Lost in the here and now
No match for Rabbits disappearing tail
It's like we're in a tank she squeals
We can look out but no one can look in
I gather our thoughts on scraps of paper
Hope for a sign
Something to say.
I like the idea of gathering one's thoughts on scraps of paper...hoping for a sign and for something to say. That is how poetry is bor sometimes, I think.
ReplyDeletecreating a swing to move back and forth through possibilities is a great way to think through the problems at hand.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of hiding in a tree, unseen. Alice is having a great time, "lost in the here and now". You always do find something to say, and we are always glad to read it. Have a good Sunday, Jae.
ReplyDeleteI think you've described the search for words, for something to say as we ponder deeply before giving birth to a poem.
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy your writing.
I'm taken by the idea of keeping score in the dark, never knowing who's winning... or, perhaps, if it matters.
ReplyDeletePassing away an afternoon on a swing, just reveling in the moment, sounds like a lovely way to spend time.
ReplyDeleteI do like the wisdom of burning the ends of the rope... after all the swing is meant to last.
ReplyDeleteOnce again: some wonderfully crafted lines in your writing. I was particularly struck by 'We keep score in the darkness' … that took me in several thought provoking directions.
ReplyDeleteI don't think you ever have a loss for words especially if Alice and Rabbit can be on hand. Thinking about our childhood is of course wishing we could have another go at life now we now what mistakes we can make.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteNice whimsical playful mood in this one.
ReplyDeleteThis is incredibly powerful, Jae!💖💖💖
ReplyDeleteI love Alice melting the rope, and swinging in the here and now. Great poem, Jae!
