It's like you vanished
Turned invisible she giggles
We are standing under the streetlight
Moths fluttering in the night
Glitter on her face
Chasing dreams
She sings a song
Quickly and quietly
It sends ripples across the pond
Like sinking stones
We are off the bat
Sitting trial
A chill swipes across our backs
We curl up
Shy signals and hints
We file and mine them
Collect them
Inhibit a tough time
It's like you vanished she says
I can't disagree.
It's a fact we often feel this way about friends that we see no more. I love that chilly loneliness you have in the poem which is all about regret.
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to reappear after a vanishing act :)
ReplyDeleteMemories stay after people have vanished. Nice words.
Enjoyable reading. This part particularly appeals:
ReplyDeleteShe sings a song
Quickly and quietly
It sends ripples across the pond
Like sinking stones
The songs, the stones, the signals--all these devices serve to propel the story forward to...the seeming vanishing point, where we are left with Alice, shaking our heads in wonder and relief.
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is a tough time! Hopefully better times are on the horizon.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we retreat and it is like we vanished. Sometimes the world feels distant. But it is right outside our door, waiting for us to love it. Have a peaceful Sunday, my friend.
ReplyDeleteBut there are ripples left behind even in the vanishing
ReplyDeleteThere are times, we aren't even present for ourselves. I love this write, "Under the street light, Moths fluttering in the night, Glitter on her face, Chasing dreams!" Wonderful words!!!
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the idea of vanishing during tough times. It's like our essence seems to disappear. But we come back as you have. Nice to read you again.
ReplyDeleteI know that you are there... you left footprints in the snow.
ReplyDeleteI love being able to lose myself and disappear for awhile.
ReplyDelete"She sings a song

This writing feels like a heavy loneliness. Giggles are meant as hope, I hope.
Good to read your writing again, Jae.
There have been times in my life I would have loved to vanish. Nicely done
