Waste

The silver birch burns pretty
Under the fat rain
Drops
Drop
Drop

The bells ring
Heavy like clouds
A cold hand
Brushed against our head

I sit in front of you
Whoever you are
I don't really care

Shh
Who
You

Enjoy
Happy
New
Stop
Drop
Roll

Why am I still here

You will paint it pretty
I will know the truth

Better tastes bitter
In the dark night bath
Aching sleepless sore

With the word comes worry
And joy she trills
Jumping off the shelf
All better now
I poke my tongue out
Tie another bag
You are throwing away our holes
She pouts

I toss her some sweet sweet
She guzzles it down
So much sweeter after the drought
She smacks her lips
Wipes her mouth
Love love she burps
I am your little handmaid
She trips skips falls over eager

Maybe we will go bang in the night
Bump
Take a look silly
It will be a big bang
And we will explode
Like fireworks mixed in sugar cream

She is pleased
That she has the final word

I
Drop
Drop
Drop

Fall to the floor
In a silent kind of frenzy

Foot so tight
It curls under
So much better I think

How did I get here Alice
She is quiet
And it occurs to me
That I don't know who I am

I sit in front of you
Whoever you are
I don't really care

You will paint it pretty
I will know the truth.

    I will know the truth.

A lot of depth in these lines Jae, sometimes the truth is hidden from us so as not to throttle our feelings of joy. But in the end we always end up finding the truth. Beautifully executed!

    Lots of love,
    Sanaa

    1. Thank you kindly Sanaa...love the use of the world throttle - could well apply to that person in the other chair! ;)

  3. Do we need to wear masks to hide ourselves? To hide our real feelings? To show joy even when are hurting? These are the questions i had while reading your poem, Jae. Not knowing yourself or your companion not knowing you - could also be a good idea to make them feel better.

    I found this very interesting.

    1. Thank you Totomai - and sorry to hear about your new year or maybe it was interrupted in a good way..I hope so..I think other people may need us to wear masks to make it more comfortable for them - especially if the truth is difficult to hear or see

  4. A three-way awakening! "In a silent kind of frenzy" At first I wondered "where is the joy"? But I'm thinking that it is joy to be aware and there and to know we can handle the truth rather than a few more lies. And who's in charge? The narrator is in charge. The Waste? All the lies of time, all the sugar required to take them in.

    1. Thank you Susan - almost put in the PU comments that it wasn't brimming with joy! Thank you for truffling out the awakening (and explaining it to me;) being in charge of the story can be positive which hopefully can lead to the merest hint of joy - thank you

  5. sometimes to experience joy in their lives, some people sugarcoat their stories when relaying them to others. interesting. well-expressed.

    1. And other people's stories are sometimes more palatable sugar coated too - sadly true on both counts..thank you very much James

  6. I'm painting everything pretty this year...It's all got be light fluffy and whimsical in my poetry world. If I dive too deep I will drown.
I think it's important to know who you are. I think it's even more important to know who they are...then you will know who you are... and like yourself a lot as a result:)

  9. We all come to a point where we have to discover who we really are. We delved deep to find our strengths our weaknesses and how to protect ourselves from all those out there who are just downright mean. This poem seeks that.

  10. I love the throwing away holes. The big question - if I exist, who am I. And I especially like the idea of not caring who the other is. I guess the important thing is being.

  11. There is joy here, but I also see the questioning and other feelings. I also saw some correlation between material actions and the unseen thoughts of people. Have a prosperous 2016!
