Underneath the window sill
A deep breath
Time passing petals
Heart beats in the air
Ding dong
Ding dong
We all fall down
We woke up to the queen
Dress in the corner
Where no one can see
The blemishes and stains
The flowers look pretty
Says Alice
Carefully looking away
We put them in a chipped cup
Added water
A little lopsided though
Her tiny fingers try and straighten them up
Like erecting toy soldiers all in a row
We’re not very good at many things pretty
She rubs her tummy
See how the letters change
When the sun shines the paper
Like magic and cake
Not today Alice
She sighs
Well, everything good takes times to grow
Confidence stars sugar and light
Rainbows flowers blue cotton coat
Skin bones teeth hair
Love
I draw in magnolia
Breathe out freesias
Like the sea in her eternal rocking
Keeping her child
Safe shore sure
The letters fall like cherries
From the tree
Ten star pennies
Strung up like puppets
Strung out like candles
Wishes and kisses
Sweet Williams and thyme
A touch of cumulus
Bitumen and lime
Swirled in our cup
Taken down
With time
Foxgloves are heady and make you forget
Along with the tincture she whispers
You won't find what you need underground
Time waits upstairs
Quick sticks
Up we go
It waits for no one
You know.
Up we go
ReplyDeleteIt waits for no one
You know.
Loved the closing lines to this exquisite piece.. time certainly does not wait for us to catch up.. rather it passes back with the blink of an eye.. it is we who must walk in step with time..Beautifully penned.. :D
Lots of love,
Sanaa
Thank you very much Sanaa...thankfully i have a little companion to hurry me along when needed ;)
DeleteYou're most welcome Jae :D
DeleteEverything good takes time to grow indeed! Good to keep that in mind.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea that time waits upstairs -- somewhere always just a little out of reach!
Yes - exactly.. just how many stairs are there! Thank you kindly Mary...and a peaceful Wednesday to you
DeleteLife, flowers even we ourselves are all lopsided. Perfection is a dream not reality. How much you have put in you poem to love Jae. It may not be perfection but it is still beautiful
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Old Egg...if everything were perfect in life we wouldn't have much to get up for...well..the sheer bliss but until that time...lopsided will do for now ;)
Delete"I draw in magnolia / Breathe out freesias"...that's the best way to live i think...
ReplyDeleteThank you Sumana
DeleteThis is for sure a wonderful piece! I love it every word! Like a field of wild flowers, one wishes to keep everyone!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Annell i hope you collected a little bouquet as you went...we would like you to have them xo
DeleteIt is relentless and merciless, and all we can do is swim in the stream, nicely done.
ReplyDeleteTwo apt adjectives thank you Alan...on we must plod indeed - thank you
DeleteLOL i luv the personality of Alice the philosopher
ReplyDelete"Not today Alice
She sighs
Well, everything good takes times to grow"
Have a nice Wednesday; i'm happy you dropped in to read mine

Thanks Gillena - sometimes she knows a thing or two ;)
ReplyDeletereally time moves on and its us who have to keep a pace with it
ReplyDeleteYes as best we can - thank you Vandana
DeleteI love the mood and the images.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rosemary
DeleteAaaa-chooo! Sorry, an awful lot of pollen in your poem! As one who lives a lopsided life, there was a lot in this which resonated with me. A lovely piece as ever JR.
ReplyDeleteRosey Pinkerton's blog
Bless you Rosey - we have plenty of tissues...we are glad you enjoyed..thank you
DeleteDelightful! The flowers lift my spirits so that I too, like Alice, "try and straighten them up / Like erecting toy soldiers all in a row." We are good at flowers, inhaling and exhaling, knowing that we too are rooted and cut and caught in time. Let them carry battle scars but still fill us with their scents and courage to face the Light!
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan - flowers are that fine mix of fragile but steady...glad you left delighted :)
Deletesometimes you just have to stop and smell the flowers
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely - thank you Sheilagh 💐
DeleteThe flower imagery is so lovely here. How true that we won't find what we need underground.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ann - sometimes we have to be brave and venture upwards I suppose although it's nice to have a quiet place to retreat to when needed..
DeleteLove the idea of 'See how the letters change
ReplyDeleteWhen the sun shines the paper' ~ wow, now we can write whatever supports us...what are we waiting for?..... :)x
The possibilities are there which is always good to know..thank you kindly humbird :)
DeleteBeautiful and brilliant, Jae Rose. And from "I breathe in magnolia" to the closing, the tempo picked up and you simply outdid yourself.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Sherry - a little foxtrot maybe ;)
DeleteAs always, an intriguing, beautiful snipet of your story with Alice. Time does not wait for us to grow. I've learned this so well. Thank you for your wonderful writing Jae.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for your wonderful comment Myrna..
DeleteLove this. Reminds me of my mother.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Peter
DeleteLoved the ending " Time waits upstairs
ReplyDeleteQuick sticks
Up we go
It waits for no one
You know." So poignantly depicted :)
Thank you kindly Purba :)
DeleteI love the fragrance that blows in and about your your poem today. the window is open to air out winter - glorious.
ReplyDeleteI love this cheerful chiding today with Alice
Thank you Moonie - I am glad it was a cheerier outing (a refreshing change perhaps) And airing out winter - is a lovely way of putting it
DeleteJae Rose,
ReplyDeleteTime makes its own way in our lives..Developing and growing..The flowers blooming at their own pace. Alice seems to already know something about this; she gives very good advice:) Time waits for no-one...
Thank you Eileen - she has her moments of wisdom and sound advice.. ;)
DeleteInteresting that you focus on flowers this week. My mother brought over two buckets full of irises over the weekend. By accident I discovered that the blossoms can stain. Now I'm playing with them as a craft project.
ReplyDeleteIt was a bunch of flowers that spurred this one on too...Irises can be toxic to cats as well..i was thinking of maybe drying my freesias out and hanging them upside down as they smell quite delicious...i am glad we crossed flower paths..thank you very much (other) Alice
DeletePS - added a pic!
DeleteThey're cute.
DeleteI like the smell of freesia much better than iris. When my mother first brought them in I thought the cats had pissed somewhere in the house. I take a certain glee in crushing them.
Tsk....crushing things is sometimes good for the soul...thanks Alice ;)
DeleteWell, everything good takes times to grow
ReplyDeleteThe sun comes but no guarantee it'll bless its goodness immediately. Yes, one has to be fair, it takes time! Great lines Jae!
Hank
Thank you very much Hank!
DeleteLove the child-like universe you have created here.
ReplyDeleteThank you J Cosmo..sometimes it's good to act your shoe size not your age (using the UK measuring system not continental and all)
DeleteThis is lovely. ..like an English summer ( when you get a good one:)
ReplyDeleteBreathing in magnolias exhaling freesias is a nice touch....
Love the ending...quick sticks..time waiting upstairs...waiting for no one
reminds me of an English nursery rhyme...Enjoyed !
Thank you very much Rallentanda - glad we served up a slice of English life - oppressive thundery summers and cake..what could be better ;)
DeleteI really liked this and the last stanza "Time waits upstairs
ReplyDeleteQuick sticks
Up we go
It waits for no one
You know."
Time waits for no man as the saying goes ^_^
Or pesky little girl! Thank you kindly Helen :)
DeleteInpatients of a child and a mean old man with an hour glass.
ReplyDeleteExactly so (says Alice!) - thank you GL!
DeleteLove the comparison of flowers to toy soldiers.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much C.C.
DeleteA lovely mix of images and words, like an intricate, pastel-coloured pattern of wallpaper in a nursery. And yet, time passes, the sands fall through the hour glass and somewhere in the pattern there is death concealed... I enjoyed this one and re-read it twice!
