And dull sighs Alice
I clean the sink again
Twelve
That’s when we’ll stop
I promise
You said that before
You lie
Like mud pie
Well at least it shines
Not so shiny when we stop though
She hops off the shelf and picks the thorns off the floor
It’s dark now
Night
It’s beautiful
When did you lose your courage
For a moment she is older than me
Maybe she always is
Sing a song of sixpence
Pennies fill the stars
And true and pretty and fervent as roses
And never late
The important date
Which is
Today
Tomorrow
The day after that
Always watching
Like a crocus aching for spring
Waiting for the thread to stretch and pop
It’s just time
It will pass
Your crossroad is inside
They can’t steal that
They can’t steal you
Of course
My wise little owl
I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine, all the time, let it shine
In every dark corner that we find
Let our light shine.
Your light is always shining bright! Two light as one, and your words do light the sky!

Thank you kindly Annell..that's because my friends are stars xo
DeleteWhether time seems a burden or a precious commodity, it will pass. The light is all that matters, and we must bring it to our own dark places.
ReplyDeleteYes...exactly so...i remembered this hymn and it felt happy singing it even though i didn't understand it at the time...thank you Ann
DeleteThere is such a mixture of sadness and resignation in this piece. Much like an acceptance that whatever life we have it is best to enjoy it. I loved that crocus aching for spring. Wherever we are in life we are always looking to the future. What a great poem today Jae.
ReplyDeleteThank you Old Egg..I tried to make the end cheery at least...future could mean lunchtime..which might be yummy and you are of course invited..thank you
DeleteSitting on the back porch tonight, there was one star a little brighter than the rest. Maybe you saw that same star. The sky would be ever so much darker without it...
ReplyDeleteThank you Dee...i sit in bed with the curtains open and look at the night sky..there are certain stars that speak for sure...but i understand...i am trying to keep that little candle alight...thank you xo
DeleteAn interesting take on Alice's story. I enjoyed it!

DeleteA complex fantasy with all the intriguing nature of Lewis Carroll's stories. I'm glad it ended well.
ReplyDeleteMe too! Thank you kindly Viv..
DeleteThis poem is full and rich, dark and foreboding--and utterly pleasurable to read. Oh, and a little light breaks through at the end. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you kindly too Magical ..

ReplyDeleteThank you Pearl - what a shiny comment
DeleteLet it shine, all the time, let it shine

ReplyDeleteI love a happy ending, Jae Rose, and enjoyed reading your poem!
ReplyDeleteThank you happily Misky
DeleteIt is so hard to let that light shine. When we do, it means we are visible, there to be seen by anyone looking. Perhaps that is why so many of us write...so much easier to let the words stand in that spotlight. Your poem glows, did you know that? There is a certain harmony in this one that is deeply abiding and somehow comforting. Yes, it begins on a dark note but that light just can't be held back. I felt lifted as it broke free and sang its own song. Thank you both and hugs to you and to Alice...
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
Yes...so much easier behind the words...thank you for your light Elizabeth ...and thank you and hugs back from me and Alice
DeleteAnother wonderful installment :) Did a have a bit a chuckle at the ending, for some reason (it's me) in the second reading read it in a sarcastic voice.

DeleteJae Rose, I came looking for you from PU Midweek Motif because I missed you yesterday and miss you again today--I want to see your light shining and hear your voice. I hope it is only a short rest and/or vacation that keeps you from us--that like that crocus you are waiting to join in. I wrote a poem with crocus in it a couple of days ago, too--about the threats of an end, but a world that keeps on returning, if out of curiosity if nothing else. Thinking of you!
