Split

The new pretties split
Like a personality

My diamond child
Waiting waiting waiting

Secret seer steel stranger
All alone in shadow
I am afraid now

Can't want to get real

Just keep walking straight
Says Alice
Past the spiders
Up the stairs

Even chaos has an order

How did you get here
I did not invite you in or open up the door
She laughs
Naughty nervous crazy

Of course you did silly

You needed me
I am shiny as a row of books
Clever as a prison full of words

Beware of spiders angels and imaginary friends

Quick sticks
We will never get there at this rate

Where are we going
You’ll see
Soon enough

My feet bleed
The hole in my hand dripping like the martyr

She sings
Red red
Dribble down
All is safe
And all is sound

My sleeves
Like falling flower leaves and honey
Stuck stuck sticky
All mixed up
Like our personality
Parcelled in a paper shirt

Buy one get one free

Where are we going
You’ll see
Soon enough

The new pretties split
Like a personality
Like you
My unwelcome little guest.

  1. Friends should laugh with not at you as your fictional Alice seems to. The good and bad in us always tussle for dominance...such is life. As always your intriguing poetry casts a spell on us until we realise it is real life for some.

    1. She can be naughty or nice it's true...I think i need to play with real life friends...she can be a bad influence when she applies herself..thank you Old Egg

  2. Sometimes we don't know where we are going, and everything seems split, eventually all falls in place, never how you thought it would be, but that is life, my little Jae. These seemed to be difficult words, to me...I felt like the piece wrote itself today. I had very little to do with it. Does that sometime happen to you?

    1. Yes these words came out despite wanting to find something brighter....better out than in as the saying goes though...thank you (for my little Jae especially) - a welcome hug xo

  3. I like the idea of a prison full of words. Or did you mean a prison made up of words? Slightly different, and much more ominous. Yes, we all want to be real, but there is a price attached.

  5. The lyrical feel - almost innocent, the trigger words from other places "Alice" - "pretties" the rhyming walk that I have taken with you - chilling and wonderful work...

  9. This is brilliant.....I love the use of repetition, the use of sounds (reading this out loud provides such a stunning effect)....and it is so interesting in depth of meaning that it can be read multiple times and each time the reader goes deeper, deeper further down, down, down into it. Lovely.

  12. This reminds me of someone I thought was close, yet remained further away than I could have imagined. These words led us all on a merry chase, the fate of we prisoners of words,

  16. seems as though Alice may be rebelling a little - tired of always being sweetness and light? I don't know - maybe it is me projecting my own feelings. Sometimes our different sides leak into each other. Spiders, though scary, are not all completely bad and diamonds can be sharp and cutting and in need of a good cleaning...
