He wears a rain coat and carries the heart
In a clear plastic bag in his hands
I stretch my body and groan
Here it comes again
I know the story
Know the signs
I open the fridge
Find the plastic tub
And cut
The refrigerator gives just enough light to see
But not to see enough
I count out seven
Line up
Taste
Wipe
And do
What I do
You know
I stretch my body and groan
I am in the library
We have
Books
Music
DVDs
Coffee
And
Help
I go there
I find the books the music the DVDs
Press the button for coffee
But I cannot find the help
I hold the counter
The car drives by
Experts in exhausts
I can’t stop it
Flag it down
I wipe my fingers on my shirt
Drink some water from the tap
Close the fridge
Here it comes again
And as he comes again so my heart falls in the bag
Stolen or safe
I am not sure
My blood drips off the rain coat
Disappears in the puddle
Up the straw
Into the nooks of the fridge door
I know the story
Know the signs
I stretch my body and groan.
Dang
ReplyDeleteI dig the way your words sway
Rock on!
Wow. It's important to keep your heart safe, you know. Give away all else, but never your heart.
ReplyDeleteHugs and a happy Sunday to you!
Take good care of your heart, Jae.
ReplyDeleteGlad you dig..thanks Rex..
ReplyDeleteTrue Ann..a sandwich bag is only a temporary keep..thank you..and happy Sunday and hugs back to you..
Will indeed..thank you Mary..
great imagery here, you tell quite a tale
ReplyDeletePrincess Vadar
It feels like 'he' is actually a thirst. When he comes around you stretch and groan and I hope that you are only allowing him to hold your heart temporarily. I'm glad that he carries it where you can still see it.
ReplyDeleteI love the way your writing is developing. OK, it always a test for the reader to to work out the analogies (if there are any!) but the imagery is overwhelming as you thrust those words at us and we try to figure out what it all means but are still captivated by them.
ReplyDeleteJae you are one crafty motorist, you with your drive-by sure hits to kill and complete the transformation, you have your reward in giftedness. Take it and run. On and on and on…
ReplyDeleteBeautiful form!
ReplyDeleteOrgan donation, yes, happens in so many ways, especially the heart... Take care, my friend. Amy

Thank you kindly Zongrik..
ReplyDeleteThank you Archna...something that leaves you thirsty for sure..yes a see through bag is key..
Thanks Old Egg..good to have you back..yes the analogy count in j world is quite low..
Thank you Zanzinece...glad you came for a drive...by..maybe as the words recede we can putter around on vintage wheels..wind and sun..but definitely no cliff edges..
Thank you Ben..
Thank you Amy..take care too..
Mystifying and magic!
ReplyDeletejust as you should with the midnight snack...make sure there is no botulism in the bag of hearts...
ReplyDeleteThank you Leonard..
ReplyDeleteand always check for dodgy beans..thank you GS..
Clear proof, here, that knowing the story and the signs makes it no easier to change the plot and outcome. But edits, rewrites, knowledge and determination can and do change themes and scenes. Not easy. Doable.
ReplyDeleteSuch clear writing, Jae. Profound and sad.
your wording, to this old country boy, is refreshing, but will have to admit the literallness sometimes works my mind...:) glenn
ReplyDeleteI feel the ennui and the silent anguish that comes from the trusting in this piece. Love how you wove so much into such a short scene. Like the repeats that brought us back again and again. Repeating. Seems a bit like my life now.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim..doable is a word to remember..keep in mind..sometimes yielding and having a good sleep sounds like the most appealing thing..maybe that can be a little chapter.. zzz :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Glenn..I hope you can un-work some of it too..
Repetition can be so draining..hope it shifts for you too Di..thank you..
Yes, dear one, SLEEP! Rejuvenation is vital! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI like the heart in the plastic bag. It should be safe there. We all need to safeguard our hearts!
ReplyDeleteI hope eventually it will happen..thanks Kim..
ReplyDeleteWe do..thank you Belva..
