Buying Alice

There is broken glass everywhere
A little pink shoe on the wall
I think I should pick the shoe up
Keep it safe
But maybe the little girl will come back
Some little girls do
Come back
I go to the place where there are colours
And crosses
Time puzzles
Hanging in one place
Wrapped up in the gift shop
I see how he digs the hole in his side
Worries away the wound
Like an empty shoe
Looking for something
Looking for something
Possible
In my dream
Such a short dream
I buy your house
But it is empty inside
Without you
Without the things that made you
The green and red faded
Long since moved on
It is senseless
Trying to buy Alice
She will always be out of reach
Strawberry jam on the top shelf.
The leaves fly
Like glass in a tornado
Like a little girl skipping in one pink shoe.

Lewis Carroll could have taken lessons from you! The yearning sadness for the lost past is palpable; I am sure we all have a similar desire to bring back the good times when we so happy but never have I read such thoughts expressed in such a poignant way. Utterly mesmerizing.

This is certainly one of your best! Or at least one of my favorites... so much to like, from beginning to end... no Alice is not for sale, she is you.

I agree that Alice can't be bought-- but if she were always out of reach I might end up drinking from the wrong little bottle. Love your words Jae, as always.

Ooohh... that ending is amazing, Jae! I hope you're considering putting all your Alice poems into a chapbook.

I do hope that you will find something possible in your dream. Many things are possible if one can reach that top shelf....somehow.

Most of us are seekers, looking for our dreams. It's hard to find something that's out of our reach.

I love when words take me away like this.

such sad sentiments.looking for something and someone out of our reach.

I hope that you dream again, soon. And that time is still, there and hopefully, the colors aren't so dark.

You've already picked up the shoe and you are keeping it safe.

Leaves won't fly forever. They will have to settle in a pile soon.

Do each of us yearn for special somethings just beyond our reach? Is that unfulfilled desire the motivation to continue on the path? You prompted so deep thought, my poet-friend. And you highlighted what is present in all, thus, what would be considered normal. Ha! Who would have thought we were SO normal. ;-)

You paint the soul with your words.

I love the bits about how some little girls come back, and how the house is empty "without the things that made you."

Sorry I didn't get over here on Sunday. I was out of town and only just got back last night.

We can and we do direct our dreams, sometimes not the helpless bystander but actively take part in it's production and direction. It's nice to know I'm not the only lucid dreamer Jae. Yours help to keep hope alive. Hugs.
