What makes you smile
Asks Alice
Words I say
Without hesitation
Sometimes they are soft
Like honey melting into warm bread
Sometimes harsh
Like broken bottles
But always they find us
Like a treasure hunt
She giggles
Some words have sound
Some rest silently
Wrap around us
Leave us spinning like a bumble bee
She claps her hands
I know what she likes
Cakes
Stars
Tea
Cats
Anything with form
Belonging
Do I belong with you now
For the time being little cricket
Does that make you happy
Yes I say
Without hesitation
We settle into the day
Watch time turn
And light cast shadows on the walls
It is peaceful
Gives us chance to gather up
Syllables
Vowels
Letters
Tomorrow we will arrange them on paper
Let them speak
Tell a little story.
You did just that and it is delightful. I love this one so much! I am clapping, along with Alice.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful the way smile find us like a treasure
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday Jae
Much😊love
Your smiley poem has set me up for the afternoon, Jae! I especially love words finding us like a treasure hunt and the gathering of syllables, vowels and letters to ‘arrange on paper, ‘Let them speak / Tell a little story’.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful images. A delight. :)
ReplyDeleteI am sure Jae that you disovered your way of writing very early in your blogging years. When you or Alice tripped down the rabbit hole and found a new way of seeing the world and us readers have been delighted ever since.
ReplyDeleteOh, that is such a delight! I'm sure all your fellow wordsmiths will agree with every word – whilst acknowledging that you have put them together here with your own unique mastery.
ReplyDeleteI like this one a lot! "Honey melting into warm bread" is vivid, and the list "Cakes / Stars / Tea / Cats" made me smile. I like belonging, too. 🙂
