We have velvet wrinkles on our skull
Too much thinking Alice chuckles
We are on the prowl
Searching for seven stories
We sit and grow
Listen and change
The rain splashes the plate
Pulls fifteen inscrutable strings
It ruffles her skirt
We are doddering daughters
Blathering humility still
Not knowing quite where we are
Relishing the adventure
The wrinkles ease
Our face relaxes
We slip quietly into sleep
Some days are better than others.
Wrinkles on the skull from too much thinking. I love Alice's wit! Best reason for wrinkles ever. I love the fifteen inscrutable strings, what a great line. Lovely to read you, kiddo. Love the closing line.
ReplyDeleteHow well you used the words here Jae. I really struggled with mine. You are lucky too to have Alice assist in the writing and commenting on your way of life!
ReplyDeleteYes, some days ARE better than others. We have to keep moving on, relishing the adventures life provides us with.
ReplyDeleteHow I love the look and feel of those velvet wrinkles. It's a gentle blast of imagery...
ReplyDeleteOh those velvet wrinkles, Jae! All that thinking does take its toll. I love the lines:
ReplyDelete‘We are doddering daughters
Blathering humility still
Not knowing quite where we are’
I know that feeling.
The line about "doddering daughters" caught me--the continuing habits and the overthinking from the beginning cut close to the bone.
ReplyDelete'Some days are better than others': was a truer line ever uttered. Great title … it really holds the piece together … in a fluid sort of way.
ReplyDeletecertainly some days are better than others. let's hope those are more. much more. :)
