The sage brush drifts in through the window
We are singing poems
Gently
Under our breath
Everything feels dizzy and light
We want to run but the rocks in our shoes halt us
We are quite happy
Lying in the sun
Counting leaves
Everything a blur
A magical dream
It is the simple things which keep us busy
Everything is fine when we think of them
It's so easy to tumble down
But we grip the edge with all our might
As night falls the smoke subsides
Heavy clouds signal a charm
How many wishes will we wait for
We wash the sage from our fingers and lie softly together.
The simple things are the best things.
ReplyDeleteAh, sometimes it is the simple things that matter most. I like the sweet ending, the lying together!
ReplyDeleteI love that thought about the simple things. They are the ones that keep us busy, indeed... and going too.
ReplyDeleteWhata beautiful calming and reassuring poem this is Jae.
ReplyDeleteThose rocks in the shoes are so annoying! They have one purpose only: to keep you from singing poems. Ignore them. Sing anyway!
ReplyDeleteThe rocks in their shoes may keep them earth bound, but those simple things have a charm of their own to keep their spirits buoyant.
ReplyDeleteThe smell of sage takes me back to Kelowna, where I grew up. The bare brown hillsides are dotted with sage. It is desert-like there. Hold tight to that edge. Dont fall too far into that dream. Smiles.
ReplyDeleteAh those simple things, may they always inspire us
ReplyDeleteHappy you dropped by my sumie Sunday today Jae

ReplyDeleteI like the tenderness in this. Its softness feels, to me, to be full of hope.
