The broken boxes line the walls
We are living in scruffy
Thin paws scrape our throat
The powder makes us dizzy
Mounts up in our lungs
We hold the applause for a minute
Have to keep busy to weather the storm
We take tea with mice and Cheshire cat
It's been a while since we saw Hatter
Say grace at the table
Swallow the sweet nectar down
Words fail us
We grapple for them in the night
It is cold and lonely in this house
We walk the dark streets
Turn our collar to the rain
Let the water dampen those boxes
Flush them away
Never to be seen again.
This poem is so wistful, Jae, and I also detect some regret. I enjoyed the lines:
ReplyDelete‘Have to keep busy to weather the storm
We take tea with mice and Cheshire cat
It's been a while since we saw Hatter
Say grace at the table’
and felt the sadness in the lines:
‘It is cold and lonely in this house
We walk the dark streets
Turn our collar to the rain’.
If only we could flush our troubles away but they keep bobbing to the surface again, don't they? I think I might prefer tea with the Cheshire Cat than confront the Mad Hatter but if it is only a dream that might be OK!
ReplyDeleteIt does not seem to me that the words ever fail you!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say the same!
Deletea trippy poem - Jae-Rose - part performance, part Wonderland and part urban grunge.
ReplyDeleteThin paws scraping the throat is such an original line.....wow! I love the taking tea with Cheshire Cat and mice....and I feel the loneliness both inside the house, and out, walking in the rain with turned collar. I love reading you, my friend. I send you a cozy indoor day watching old movies....like the one I plan to spend.
ReplyDeleteAnother disoriented theme that makes some sense to me. :-)

Good to see you, Jae.
ReplyDeleteI love the dystopian world Alice inhabits...I just never know 'what next'!
ReplyDeletepatience is award winning.
