Song

We will take a room in the house of beauty
Nestle there safe and sound
A warm string of paper
A blanket of words
Crash Bang
Who cares if the ceiling falls down
We are alive in a space and time
Which can never be flooded
We like it there
Quietly humming our own speed of light

They switched the milk
Turned it into wine
And cake claps Alice
Wiping the powder off her nose

We are waiting waiting
To take the bags down
Once they have gone
And our pulse descends
Down the stairs
Softly
Softly
Into the cellar

The light glares brightly down there
Mean like her
Scowling and growling in the kitchen cupboard
Too hungry to eat
Too tired to sleep

Hush
Hush
Blow the candles out

We wish for a mist to slow ourselves down
A white bright room
In a house safe and sound

Silver bangles clank in raincoat pockets
A chime
A voice
Falling petals
Singing in the night

All will be right
All will be well.

  1. Oh, Jae Rose! Darkness seems safer than light, Candlelight safer than bright, deep down safer than upstairs in the house of beauty. Beauty may be a mirage, anyway. I wonder about that. I don't understand all the allusions herein, but I hear the song very strong despite ceilings and petals and things that fall.

Bless you, Jae Rose. I pray all manner of things will be well, and your wishes come true in a house safe and sound all around, up and down, room to cellar. I check my mail daily--so don't be a stranger these next two-three weeks even if PU is closed.

  2. Being alive in a space and time is all we have that we can truly call our own and that is uniquely ours. All will indeed be right and well if we wish it so and keep to our own voice.

    Too hungry to eat
Too tired to sleep' ~ I wish these words to be healed, to calm down, to rest, to walk outside with fresh air, - to get healthy appetite and sleep...~ my holiday greetings and smiles go to you, Jae. :)x

  6. I spent many years in that search for a house safe and sound. Eventually decided, like the turtle, I would build and carry it within, through my many moving on's.....I love your closing lines for they are true. All will be right. All will be well. Do keep in touch via email through the holidays, Jae Rose. May you be showered with blessings at Christmas, and always.

    1. Thank you kindly Sherry....safety cannot be found in bricks and mortar that's for sure...I like the idea of a protective shell inside however...and turtles match my speed at the moment...though my head is a hare! All our best wishes and a shower of good things back to you

  11. This poem was like a mix of a rap and a lullaby. I don't know why, but I could read this in either of those forms. I also felt like this poem was about an abusive home. Not sure if this is where you were going with it, but that is what I came to understand. It is a great story though that weaves together something so real. Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem with us. :)

  12. Turning milk into wine sounds good to me this time of year. And those candles???? We blow them out with trepidation, I think.

    Merry Christmas to you, Jae.

  16. If one does not live in a personal bubble where does one live? What! Don't be silly...the real world is no place to live:) Clanking of silver bangles in raincoat pockets are not allowed in my bubble Clankers can go elsewhere. I wish you A Happy Xmas with lots of mince pies and egg nog... but mostly I wish you inner peace with fragrant floral thoughts (Smiles and grins )
