Kill the spider Monday
Choose an identity Tuesday
Collect the powder Wednesday
Power down Thursday
Come back Friday
And then
We both laugh
How very real silly is
Will I fall asleep
Or wake up
And awake is asleep
See, easy as swapping yellow and cherries
Of course
Yellow day always comes after I find you
Bright ones
Like an explosion
She taps her foot nervously
And
But It’s as easy as pie
Sometimes I wish the hole would be filled with concrete
Inside or on top
It barely matters any more
Our nation fell
Imagination barely scares us any more
Nothing left we could adequately describe as an adventure
No real blue
We walk faster
Our present
Our future
She sings and skips happily along inside me.
Each of us we must admit are our own Jekyll and Hyde. I wouldn't have it any other way. Nobody really knows us, which really gives us a lot of freedom for our Mr. Hydes' to emerge. How often have I heard the saying "You old devil you" and have to look closely at them to wonder whether they really know...
ReplyDeleteVery thought provoking Jae and seamless inclusion of the words.
Thank you Old Egg....I am glad the words are seamless even if reality is frayed and hemmed (ps you are not demonic in any way, shape or form)
DeleteIt does sound like she is celebrting with discveries and new conclusions, but most of all with happy time spent in concert with a loveing one.
ReplyDeleteIt's a kind of dysfunctional celebration - maybe those are a good start! Thank you kindly Susan
DeleteWell I think we all somehow have to write our own blueprint...but I like the idea of choosing an identity every Tuesday. Some weeks it might be fun to choose an alternate identity. And...if a person is afraid of jumping it would not be easy as pie probably. Fear makes things hard. Have a good week, Jae.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary - there was a piece of graffiti on a wall where I lived once which had little red riding hood spray painting fear makes the wolf look bigger..maybe I should try swapping travelling companions one day too! Have a good week also Mary
Deleteseems we're all bogged down in a quagmire...specially when "Asleep is awake / And awake is asleep"....
ReplyDeleteIndeed...quagmire is a good description for it! Thank you Sumana
DeleteThis really packs a punch, Jae!
ReplyDeleteHopefully a fruit one...thank you kindly Laurie ;)
DeleteAs always, your words take me right along with you......especially "there is no exit here..no real blue" and "the rainbow caved in...our nation fell." You write so beautifully, with such poignancy.
ReplyDeleteThat you kindly Sherry I leapt ahead on the South African heritage day theme but still..I think it sums up something....thank you :)
Delete"If I stop" ~ nice sentiment to ponder... and who is parasite anyway....~ explosive poem as always, Jae :)xx
ReplyDeleteThank you humbird..I think we make for quietly explosive travel companions me and Alice ;)
DeleteI've had dreams so intense that I actually had to re-orient myself to known reality. I guess this isn't entirely uncommon with people who have bipolar disorder (which I do.) Probably not surprising that this happens more often when I'm under worse than usual stress.
ReplyDeletehttp://dothedead.wordpress.com/2014/09/24/vile-awards-preparations-part-i-inspectors-and-parasites/
I hear you Cara....perhaps a safe middle place between reality and dreaming is a good place to be orientated to..thank you for your comment and visit
DeleteVery philosophical Jade. Life is the adventure ups downs and in betweens it takes us on a journey we can't truly understand until we complete it and complete it we must. All that hurts and makes us smile how else would we know all that we need to know? And our place in the universe
ReplyDeleteThank you Sheilagh - I think your comment is probably wiser and more philosophical than my scribble - complete it we must...I like that! Thank you
DeleteWe live in a world that would impose blueprints upon us, but the only way to be truly sane is to draw our own, no matter what it might look like to others.
ReplyDeleteI think so - maybe the trick is in having confidence in it...thank you kindly Ann
DeleteWhat an upbeat poem. Yeah, you've still got an undertow hidden in the powder, but I ended up smiling in spite of myself.
ReplyDeleteYay! Thanks so much (other) Alice...nice to know it made you :)
DeleteI enjoyed the Alice reference discussing our heritage and future. Good poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you GL
DeleteGoodness your week is very structured....Tuesday sound interesting (smirkles)although myself, I prefer to kill my spiders over the weekend (giggles) Yellow days are good...I've had a lot of yellow days this September . It's Spring ...the goslings and cygnets have arrived in the park and Primavera makes you think that something wonderful is about to happen to you.....even if it doesn't, it's a lovely feeling anyway....You sound much happier...
ReplyDeleteThank you Rallentanda...I am happy in my world...it's the going out and being shoe horned into the outside world that's the fucker...and I am very glad you sound springy too! ;)
DeleteYou DO know everything. Always have. It is all accessible to you; and you get to choose. It's that choosing process that kills us, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteYes indeed...and you kind of know when you're making the best choice and not the best but still you go for the latter...still..Baby steps...thank you Kim
DeleteYour poems always leave me breathless, although I'm sure that I barely scratch the surface of understanding them. They are musical, in a frenetic sort of way, and they always lead me in and out and round about the rabbit hole!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of bopping around the rabbit hole - although apologies for wearing you out! I doubt I get much below the surface of understanding them either so thank you Magical!
Deletefascinating !
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandra
DeleteAlice in Wonderland has always held so much mystique and possibility. Jump like a rabbit down the hole...
ReplyDeleteYes indeed thank you Erin - but be sure to pack a parachute
Deletemagical words again, rhythmic
ReplyDeleteThe Sunshine
Thanks Cifar
DeleteHang on! Hang on! You can't have 'Kill the spider Monday'! Who will eat my mosquitoes then?
ReplyDeleteNext time I will catch them in a jam jar and send them over to you then J Cosmo ;)
DeleteMade me think of our ancestors coming to foreign countries, learning new languages and cultures, and re-orienting their lives. It must have felt just as you describe. I loved your opening lines.
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly Mary...the description is certainly more feeling than landscape...thank you
DeleteWonderful way of connecting it to the Alice episode! Nicely Jae!
ReplyDeleteHank
Thanks nicely Hank!
DeleteSomething seems delightful, funny, scary…..maybe true maybe not….but we don't know everything. I have been reading Neruda…he says it starts with the' word'…but I am thinking it goes back before the word…the feeling…the heart or soul a place of the imagination, but who is to say, what we can imagine is or isn't true? Perhaps when we jump down that hole, that is where we go?
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful and insightful comment Annell...thank you very much..I think you are right..the word comes much, much later...perhaps you are lucky if it comes at all xo
