For Dverse - 29/9/25
I’d like us to focus on “the fall“or “falling” as we write our haibun today.
Choose one of the following themes for inspiration -
The Falling of Leaves
Falling in Love
Falling Down (oops)
The Fall of Society
Falling of Fruit or Nuts
A Waterfall
A Downfall or Decline
A Free Fall Experience
Your haibun should consist of one to a few tight paragraphs of non-fiction / autobiographical prose usually written in present tense, followed by a nature-based, seasonal haiku. The haiku is a whisper or another layer, perhaps deepening the meaning of the prose. You are welcome to use any of my images included in this prompt.

Falling Down
I have an opportunity to fall back down. Skip, trip, hold hands and jump from the lip of the Rabbit Hole. It makes me feel both excited and scared. Would it be a glorious free falling. Not being for one tiny moment. Or a wiling act to cross me back into the chaos and sadness of Underground.
And so I sit and watch the autumn leaves. Carry my thoughts away to the sharpness and crisp crunch-crunch of them underfoot. Of course, I cannot allow my own downfall. The inevitable decline from well to not. If there even is that distinction.
I will either be wholly in the world or removed from it. Half above, half below. And below feels like a downfall and decline.
Alice whispers don’t
I look into her eyes and say -
I am sorry Little Cricket
I have to do this part alone
Certain as a crisp, yellow-bright sunshine leaf falling from our magic tree
I feel ready to jump.
