" It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke
I collect words and phrases like picking up pebbles from the beach
Or plucking the juiciest berries from the bushes
I like how words can carry you - hold you safe
Even when the world feels out of reach
Now, of course, the sun shines brighter
More daylight hours to learn how to fill
I need to learn about lighter days - days without chaos
I need to remember swinging on the apple tree
Riding my bike up hills and through puddles
Quietly finding pleasure within myself
A ray of being that can never be broken
Safely back through the looking glass.
I like the whole work but I especially like the opening line.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful yes the lightness of childhood is to be remembered
ReplyDeleteThe couple of line at the end. speak loud.
ReplyDeleteLight and airy. My favorite line: A ray of being that can never be broken.
ReplyDeleteThis does have the sweetness of childhood mixed with the hard won wisdom of growing up. I think many of us have to grow quite a bit before we really can regain that feeling of finding quiet pleasure within ourselves.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. I, too, especially love your opening line. And your title. An April heart is a fine heart to have.
ReplyDeleteYour poem is the perfect response to Rainer Maria Rilke's line. Cheers, Jae.
ReplyDeleteA big YES! to the whole of this. It lightens my heart just to read it.
ReplyDeleteWell you've won ! Finding quietly pleasure withing yourself...A ray of being that can never be broken. Who gets this? Only a few. You deserve it. Now send some of that magic across the ocean. I need to be where you're at:)
ReplyDeleteLove your title, and the quote!
