Wild Horses
Inside I am a wild horse, churning up the sand
On a frothy shore
Keeping a good pace
Beneath the moonlight
Breathing with purpose and with the call of the wild within
My body is free - from pain - and growing with each step
My lips form into a smile, froth a little at the sides - with excitement and anticipation
I have never run with a herd but I have battled to find my place
My coat is glossy and black, a slight sheen of sweat
Eyes wide and like Tiger’s Eye
I run not to win but for the pleasure of movement
Of the sense of flow that comes without thought
Journeying in a different sphere
Forgetting and remembering all at once
That inside I am free - wild as an eagle - or a single black stallion
Claiming the shore for themselves - unable to stop or freeze.
A stunning stallion, Jae, and the best place for it is ‘churning up the sand on a frothy shore’. It reminds me of those horses on the Camargue, only black. I love that you wrote from the point of view of the horse.
ReplyDeleteI love the thought of being a creature like this yourself... sometimes we wish for those animal. like being our totem.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous write Jae ❤️ I especially love; "I run not to win but for the pleasure of movement."
ReplyDeleteI can feel the power in this poem - love the image of the stallion and the eagle, claiming the shore for themselves. Beautiful.
