We wrap the flowered quilt
Around our shoulders
We are safe in our room
Outside it is dark
It soothes our head
If we stand on tip toe
We can see stars
And the lights
Of other houses
A new day dawning
We will feel the
Ground beneath our feet
When the sun comes up
Say hello to the
Strangers we pass every day
There is a familiarity
In this small place
We are not sure if it is comforting
Or suffocating
It is hard to imagine
Being anywhere else
This is the place
Where we have words
They keep our troubles
At bay
Our room
Our bed
Is like a cocoon
It protects us
Keeps us safe
No wonder we do not
Want to leave
I hold her hand and smile
It feels good to be safe
In this uncertain world.
I feel the same way, in my small rooms, Jae - peace, safety and comfort. It is nice to have somewhere to cocoon in, when the world feels so crazy. But, always, it is the natural world that leads me out my door, to enjoy the unfolding of yet another spring. Watch for the daffodils, they are popping up here!
ReplyDeleteJae, I love the image of the flowered quilt being draped around one's shoulders! I also like the 'cocoon' image. How wonderful to have a place where one feels really "safe in this uncertain world."
ReplyDelete"This is the place
ReplyDeleteWhere we have words
They keep our troubles
At bay"....This is such a wonderful thought! I agree wholeheartedly what you say at the end.
That’s my kind of safe, Jae, a flowered quilt, home, looking out at stars and the lights of other houses. There is much to be said about familiarity.

ReplyDeleteJae,
ReplyDeleteI loved the immediate sense of safety found in your place, your home...
I too enjoy that contentment in my home, away from the outside world...
A nice response to the subject...
