The spiders crawl underneath our skin
Two birds and a feather we sing
Autumn falls like leaves
The bed creaks and groans under the weight of the cans
Hatter takes tea with the Red Queen
They laugh and smile
I stay still
Listen to the empty rattle of The Joker
Peppermint clouds and cinnamon dust
We are ready to fly away
The spiders crawl underneath our skin
Two birds and a feather we sing
Sometimes, but not all the time, I could sing this song. Come, two birds and a feather. Come, and sing through me.
ReplyDeleteThanks, as always, Jae, for a journey into places that I would never go without your guidance.
To "lay still" while "Hatter takes tea with the Red Queen" and the Joker shakes his "empty rattle" is, indeed, letting spiders crawl under my skin! What a rhythm this poem has! What a readiness!
ReplyDeleteWow... autumn falling like leaves in peppermint clouds and cinnamon dust... atmospheric!
ReplyDelete"The spiders crawl underneath our skin" Could feel the shudder and angst...Thanks for the "Peppermint clouds and cinnamon dust"....

ReplyDeletemuch love...
Yes it is musical and the images are surreal gems. Brilliant !
ReplyDeleteI agree with MMT.......we need your words, which take us to magic kingdoms we would otherwise never visit. I LOVE "Two birds and a feather we sing." But I dont like the spiders under the skin which must be very....itchy. It is always lovely to read you, my friend. I hope the sun is shining on you today as brilliantly as it is shining here, across the pond, on the far edge of the western sea.
ReplyDeleteThis was so laden with symbols it's amazing your talents. I'm smiling at your skills. Great write!
ReplyDeleteThis one is dancing in my head. The images, the words, the song. I must read and reread.
ReplyDeleteLove how you keep bringing us to wonderland with "Peppermint clouds and cinnamon dust" great write

"Two birds and a feather we sing." I love that!
ReplyDeleteAs always Jae Rose your imagery is amazing! I love the repetition of the line "Two birds and a feather we sing"....captivating yet full of freedom.
ReplyDeleteI revere spiders, but at a distance. Crawling under the skin seems much too close for comfort! But the birds and feather, and the singing, take me from creepy to delightful.
