Convert

The world drops me
Like a treacle filled balloon
I no longer capitulate
We fall
Any way
Any where
Any how
She waits
At the end of the bed
Swinging her legs and singing
Until the powder wears off

The trail through my veins is inky
A single list of words
A pattern which renders me useless

Let’s stay underground she beckons
We belong there
This is not home
Home is where the heart is
And yours is on a playing card

Look Rabbit’s watch says time for tea
Hatter has a plate of stars
And a sea of peppermint moons
Can you smell the sugar and julep
It really is intoxicating

Just how you like
Just what you want
You know you will never be free

Powder ashes dirt
And me
She claps loud
With a sense of condemnation

They threw the world at me
They threw the book at me

That smell comes in the dream
Through my synapses
Like a sewage channel
Beyond boredom
Beyond ennui

we don’t want to be
we don’t want to be

Funny
Even nothing generates energy
Electricity never dies
Only converts
Like water into wine

She waits
At the end of the bed
Swinging her legs and singing
Until the powder wears off
Until I wear out

We know I never will.

  1. Sounds like someone is an energizer bunny. I really liked this section:
"Look Rabbit’s watch says time for tea
Hatter has a plate of stars
And a sea of peppermint moons
Can you smell the sugar and julep
    It really is intoxicating"

I like how loony it is, but at the same time it portrays that odd feeling that we get when something seems so odd. Might also just be the nostalgia behind the words too.

  4. We are all different. Who would want it any other way? None but those who are blind and stupid and love rules. We must try to be ourselves without rattling others cages! Try to be a secret squirrel and hide that stash of nuts. I wish Alice would laugh and clap less and be some help. Brilliant writing Jae with dark overtones.

    1. Thank you kindly Old Egg...we bury our treasures...maybe that's why it all goes a bit wrong...or what we think is treasure is not and we bury the wrong things...is that Alice being riddlesome! A more helpful companion would be of use..but we are stuck together like glue ;)

  5. I love the metaphor of the heart on the playing card. We think we know where our heart is, and then we get lost again and aren't so sure. The energy to search never really leaves, though. Sometimes it just lies latent. Newton and Einstein knew their stuff.

  8. She can be hard to live with, can't she? What a little tease, swinging her legs and singing at the edge of the bed. I know that I'd get tired of her antics. Yes, I would.
