We are lost for words
It's so easy to skip and fall
Wrap the shoes in paper
Place them in a box
This is a complicated hunger
Pious and demanding
We wave at the exit
The mouth of the hole
Follow Rabbit down
It's about all we can do to survive
Take the bus
Sing hymns under our breath
Alice adores the sugar
I can't deny her the pleasure
Her skin is oily
Too much time spent underground
We need to lick the sun
Feel the stars on our face
Words trickle in
Like magic
We gobble them up
Hold our swollen bellies and smile
It is good to be back she murmurs.
Tis good you are back. Was wondering where you had got to? Sunshine makes a difference to mood state. Hymn singing on the bus...hmmm....just as well you live in a country known for its tolerance of eccentricity.:)Down here you would be arrested for disturbing the peace and inciting religious intolerance. Good the words are trickling back...woohoo!
ReplyDeleteIt is good to read your words too Jae. There is nothing quite like the pleasure of gobbling words and writing them down as well.
ReplyDeleteWhen "Words trickle in / Like magic" it has to be a jolly good time. Love the smile too.
ReplyDeleteDespite the title, the poem reads like two who have found each other again and snuck away but then as the lines say:
ReplyDelete"This is a complicated hunger
Pious and demanding"
Alluring indeed, to lick the sun and feel the stars on one's face, as words trickle in like magic....
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this: "We need to lick the sun/Feel the stars on our face/Words trickle in like magic," indeed, what would we be without them?
ReplyDeleteThe "complicated hunger / pious and demanding...." such a stellar line! I like the licking of the sun and feeling the stars on one's face." It is always lovely to read you, my friend.
ReplyDeleteAh the sunshine. Warmth of heaven. Happy Sunday Jae
ReplyDeleteMuch☺love
It's always good to be back. Glad the two of you have crawled out of the hole for a while. May you continue to lick the sun to your soul's satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteIt is magical when the words trickle in, great piece.
