We need to make some skeletal re-arrangements
Realign
Reassign
I lose my footing in the coffee aisle
Clickety click
Snap my shoulder
All bones click
Like dead letters
Pulling under the skin
Let me out
Let me out
Cries Alice
We all fall down
Except we don’t
I don’t
Faint
Fall down
Clear up aisle nine
Wouldn’t that be good
I clench the tissue in my pocket
Press the metal
wake up wake up
Except we don’t
I don’t
Ever
I run my tongue over my lips
There is rust in my mouth
The taste of bad days
Or where they good
We can’t decide
I can’t decide
It still tastes better than reality
In some ways
In the mirror
I do not want this
I do not want this
Gently
Pulls the bones
Bashes my spine
wake up wake up
she says
i say
it will always be this
we will always be this
i will always be this
Please clear up aisle nine.
If only all of the aisles (including aisle nine)would remain perfectly unobstructed! If only the path would stay clear! Life would be so much simpler then.... Have a good week, Jae.
ReplyDeleteYes..the order of a supermarket would be well applied to the chaos of reality..everything you need to make a home..inside and out..have a good week too..thank you Mary..
DeleteMy bones are well awake and aching with our cold temps here now too.
ReplyDeleteI felt yours click and snap...yikes.
'Dead letters under the skin..pull me out, pull me out'...Amazing imagery.
I hope the mess in aisle number nine wasn't too bad. Tell Alice to wake you up more gently in future, bashing your spine is not a very pleasant wake up call at all.
Fabulous read Jae.
Thank you Daydreamer..a slow thaw is a kinder way to wake up it's true..my cold snappy fingers accidentally prodded the wrong button on Wordpress and I deleted myself from your followers list..I think I re-clicked but will double check..click click..thank you..warm bone hugging thoughts back..
DeleteYour poem plays with the imagination perfectly. I specially loved this line "I run my tongue over my lips. There is rust in my mouth."
ReplyDeleteThank you Green Speck..I am glad to have a place to play.. ;)
DeleteHumpty Dumpty
ReplyDeleteSat on the wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
All the King's horses
and all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty
together again.
Takes so long to understand these seemingly simple nursery rhymes.
I never could Rallentanda..still get words and stories wrong..for years Major Tom was a junket..adapt and die (big mistake that one!) ..no wonder, like egg, j cracked..thankyouthankyou..
ReplyDeleteit is hard and takes courage to accept and move forward from difficulties in ones lives.Life is always throwing those curves. Bravo that you can move on and clean up on aisle nine.
ReplyDeleteBless you Sheilagh..if only there was a Captain in j's supermarket..thank you ..
ReplyDeleteClear up aisle nine
ReplyDeleteWouldn't that be good
Wouldn't it? If only our messy lives could be so easily cleaned up with an announcement--some are lucky enough to have helpers come to help with the mess. Great writing!
Yes..they are..the rest of us can watch from the escalator..thank you Nico..have a nice day! (As they say)..
DeleteDon't talk to me about supermarkets. Hell is a welcome place in comparison. When incomprehensible announcements could be an encouragement to buy baby wipes or even emergency evacuation procedures. When your lane has a change of operator who seems unprepared to do any work while she takes her time, drinks her drink and tries to avoid eye contact as she doesn't want to be there but be at home with her bone idle boyfriend. Are you lucky to have Alice I could do with her here, she would sort my Aisle 9! I am getting used to your world Jae.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you are used to my world OldEgg! It's not quite as cheery as the worlds you create..i love supermarkets..not for shopping..hate that..but it's like the communal fire pit where tribes gather together..or fight each other for the last pack of 99p baby wipes..as an observer they really are amusing..come the apocalypse the supermarket will be where we all head to..and steal TV's although there won't be electricity..ho hum..
DeleteI've had that thought too at 6 o'clock as I look in the mirror! Eventually, a little clean up helped in many ways!
ReplyDeleteCleaning is good for the spirits..thank you Robyn..
DeleteClean up aisle 9... I suspect Alice is ultimately disallowed this task. I suspect we each must eventually clean up our own aisles. Ugh! Cleaning is not my favorite task.
ReplyDeleteIndeed..Alice's fingers must remain as soft as mouse fur..although she is a good back seat cleaner upper..thank you Kim.. x
DeleteI don't think my aisle 9 will ever be clear. It's because Alice never listens to me.
ReplyDeleteShe can be like that ;) there is more fun to be had in other things when you are little Alice..thank you Alice..
DeleteIf only we could get Aisle 9 cleaned up with just an announcement! In my experience, on the rare occasions when someone does come along and try to help, they only make things worse. We must each be responsible for Aisle 9.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that true..one must seize the mop and get to scrubbing up your own stains..thank you Ann..
ReplyDeletewow, that was a terrific post and absolutely had the fine feathers of alice and the looking glass... especially so the supermarket dream/nightmare.... i like the idea of making it without faltering and wondering and still press forward.... miss pie
ReplyDeleteThank you miss pie..good to see you..I like the idea of fine feathers and mirrors..thank you ..
DeleteThis seems a very clever write!
ReplyDeleteThank you Annell x
ReplyDeleteReally interesting opening line. I'm not sure Alice will be much help in cleaning up Aisle Nine; I picture her just kind of pushing things around making more of a mess in the long run...
ReplyDeleteIt's true she is a petulant little one..thank you RMP..
