Page

We split the page
In two
Let the ashes drift
Upon our flesh
We pick out words
Ones which make us happy
Roses and gems
A veil of sand
And clay
Our laughter
Is scarce
But when she giggles
It is like a pearl
In my throat
I like to see her smile
And laugh
It makes the day lighter
The nights less scary
We are marks
Upon a page
A story
One which will one day end
But for now a treasure
We treasure the pages
White and pure
Ready for our rich
Blue ink
Our favourite lines
Our only story.

Spring

Soon the clocks
Will spring forwards
We will go from
Room to room
Changing the hands
On the dials
The days will be shorter
But there will be more light
More time to daydream
She loops a strand of hair
Around her finger
Thinking I believe
It is hard to think of summer
The birds in the tree
Sing and sway
Every now and again
There is a splatter of rain
Enough to make the paths slippy
Make us concentrate on our steps
How quickly time moves
How far behind
We fall
Perhaps we will find
Some daffodils
Place them on the window sill
She claps her hands in glee
Full of the joys of spring.

Child

She sits on the window ledge
Small as a mouse
Bold as a lion
I wonder how she sees
The world
If it's different than me
I wonder if she has
Ever really been a child
She is wise beyond her years
However many are they
She hums
That makes me smile
Breaks up the silence
The loneliness
Perhaps we are both
In a Wonderland
Skipping and playing
With words
Perhaps we are one
Adult and child
You never grew up neither
She says
And I have to agree
We will see bigger things
As time turns
And another day comes
I would like to see the world
Through her eyes
I think it would be magical
She smiles at me
And I smile back.

Gloaming

The moon falls away
From the sky
It is gloaming
A new day dawning
We are grateful
For another chance
To conjure up the sun
It will emerge
Between the clouds
We will wonder
In its light
Let its rays
Smudge our skin
She whispers in my ear
Seeds of a prayer
To while away the hours
To wash away
The stains
We are glad it is dawn
We will dream and play
Hold the sky
In our hands
Chase the birds
And follow the waves
Of the sea.

Cotton

The cotton kisses our skin
It is cool and soft
Perfect for a spring day
I wear trousers
She wears a dress
Both are blue
It's the warmest colour
She giggles
We open the window
Let the air drift
Over us
Everything hurts
When we are awake
We cannot wait
To dream
Snuggle up together
Content that we have
At least sprung some words
Tomorrow we will wash
The cotton
Make it shiny and bright
Today we will speak
More likely listen
We will have visitors
We hope we can manage
The disruption
We hug the cotton
It makes us feel safe
And loved.

Fifteen Reasons

There are fifteen reasons
Why we should remain silent
There are fifteen reasons
Why we should yell
The blackbirds hover
Overhead
We lie down
Gaze at the sky
The clouds are pink
The window is blue
Tonight we will
Sip on stars
Sleep under a dark cover
Dreaming of tomorrow
Hanging on to today
All just a dance
And a song
How did we become
What did we become
There are fifteen reasons
Why we should breathe
We understand one
Will figure the others out
Always solving riddles
Diving down the Rabbit Hole
I hold her hand
Cry silently
Scream inside
All will be well
She whispers
And for one tiny moment
I believe.

Sober

We are as sober as bees
Urgently lunging towards
Sunlight
The light of sunset
She swirls a finger
In the water
The ripples fan out
Like angel wings
Last night we saw the stars
The plough
The only constellation we know
It filled our mind
Helped us sleep
Calmer than a scream
Less frenzied than bees
On their pollination path
What will tomorrow bring
Tea and cake
She squeals with delight
Perhaps that is our
Powder now
Always wanting something
Soothing on our lips
Sweet as nectar
Sober as bees.
