Her Rights

I like to think we are both learning our rights

Her, a child being captured in words and image

Trapped forever in being young

Although her innocence was stolen just like mine

Her eyes are full of the power of an ocean

Topaz and rich with a glowing sparkle

Perhaps like mine now as I awaken from my past

Tuck it under the rug and learn to move on

Learning as I go - becoming a woman

In my own steady way - and that feels good

Something to treasure for myself

And pass back to those who have cared for and loved me

The ones who said believe

I take her tiny hand in mine

Silently whisper my prayer to her

And smile - not on my face but in my heart

It feels as if our burdens have lightened

As if we have new paths to follow

It is a woman’s right feel safe in her own world

Above ground and Underground - we are trying to making it so.

  3. "Her eyes are full of the power of an ocean / Topaz and rich with a glowing sparkle"...There's so much strength in these lines. And how wonderful it is when a smile dwells in the heart. So beautiful Jae.
